I haven't bought any Charles Shaw at TJ's for years, now I don't need to
bother. I'll buy other wines there, real ones....but not this dreck.

The basic gist of it all is that Two Buck Chuck is owned by Bronco Wines,
which is owned by Fred Franzia, a trash-mouthed, unapologetic downright
crude and shrewd business man who sees it as his mission to pretty much
remove any shred of pretentiousness (and dare I say integrity and quality
along with it) from the wine world.

yawn. Gee, a guy who owns more than just a winery has no integrity? Is
evil? Gee, planting long rows in your vineyard to be more efficient is
some horrendous crime? Owning a lot of land is problematic? Mechanical
harvesting is not done by others?

This is a bunch of crapolla.

Here's an in depth story from The New Yorker if you are intrested in the read.

Gives more background, etc.

Everyone can make up their own minds about what to buy.

This is reason enough to buy it!

Out front, there are three flagpoles. One flies company colors, a
maroon-and-gold flag that says "JFJ," with the "J"s standing for Franzia's
partners, Joseph and John, who are Fred's older brother and a cousin. The
others fly the flag of the home state or country of any visitor, and the
American flag. "No California flag-they've screwed us too many times,"
Franzia says. "

Two lengthy articles, but no one mentions that the company's name
comes from Franzia's alma mater.

Yes, Fred is a Santa Clara Bronco, through and through.
Michael Mondavi went to Santa Clara, as well. They knew about
growing grapes and making wine, but running a successful business
was harder.
