Default refigerate raisans?

Do you refrigerate after opening?

Most brands say that. Though the raisans stick together and get hard.
I told someone a few years ago-- the box says to refigerate, but the
brand I had bought did not say it explictlly when I went to show them,
embarrassing me... The box I got the other day does say to
refrigerate, after opening.

No. I put them in a container with a tight lid and keep them in a
lower cupboard. I don't use raisins very much, so if they dry out too
much between uses I rehydrate them with a few drops of water and a
vigorous shake before putting them away or just drown them in alcohol
(like rum) and let them wait that way.

Dried fruit doesn't need refrigeration, their concentrated sugar is an
excellent preservative... it's more important to store in a sealed
container so they don't dry out... today larger quantities of
raisins and other dried fruit is sold in resealable plastic bags, like
zip-locs.

Never noticed it before, but yes, it does say "for best results
refrigerate after opening." I never had and see no reason to start.
Seems that a lot of things say that now. Must be a lawyer thing.

I like raisins on my morning cereal if it is a plain one and I
sometimes add additional ones to Bran Flakes if they seem to need it. I
use the original plastic lidded container to keep them on the counter.
They don't dry out notably in 3 or 4 weeks. They do tend to clump but
are easily separated with my fingers.

3 or 4 weeks is considered freshly opened in my world. One container
of raisins can last me a year or three.

I've never refrigerated raisins. They stay in the pantry with a
clothespin holding the plastic bag shut. They never go bad or dry out
in the 3 months or so that I have them.

True.. so why does it recommend refrigerating after opening?

Sidenote: the old box I have says "best by" June 2012 (I don't use
raisans very often.). And I ate some tbe other day in a fruit salad,
and was none the worse for wear next days.

Why would I?

I buy raisins cuz I like to eat them. Duh.

For the most part, any dried fruit will get drier if you leave it in
the cupboard for 2 yrs. A box of raisins will last me fer 3-6 mos.
They don't turn into fruit gravel cuz they usually have a pretty good
sealing system. If I use it, the raisins will remain fairly moist.

OTOH, they started out as dried fruit. What do you do with dried
fruit? You freaking reconstitute it, ferchrysakes! I even soak new
raisins in warm water for fruit salad.

Are you a sock for the bovine? This stupid question rings similar.

Used to get Raisan Bran when liittle, but when older realized the
raisans were shiny because they were covered with sugar. Why do they
cover raisans with sugar?? They are already full of sugar. For few
years, bought bran flakes and added raisans... Haven't done that in a
while, but now have a hankering for it after reading your post.

I put raisins into a tupperware container and they may be around for
months and months before they get used up. They just get a little
smaller and dryer.

look at the box. It says refrigerate... It is suprising so few
refrigerate, but it says to. My mom did not. Nor did she sticks of

No worms but cover the raisins in rum and from time to time take some out
and serve with cream/ice cream

My box does NOT say refrigerate. Besides, any moron knows,

When I used a lot of dried fruit for muffins, I did refrigerate but that was
only because the place where I lived had no other place to store food. I
had some shelves above the sink and I could put things like pasta and canned
food there but I really didn't keep much food in the house.

The gmail/google group junkies are back in force. It's proof Summer has

I had a dehydrator. I did use it for raw foods but... I quit dehydrating
for the sake of having dried foods because it said that everything I made
needed to be refrigerated. I suspect that was a CYA though.

Yes, I can. I have even made my own. I used the standard white seedless.
End result was so sweet we couldn't stand them. Much sweeter than what you
can purchase.

Made my own as a kid but not sure what kind of grapes those were. One of my
friends had grapes in their yard and we used the old fashioned method of sun
and window screens. I just remember making them. Don't remember eating
them.

You are not a cow, unless we are all cows.

Are we all cows?

No. They like to make fun of my name because... It's Italian in in
Italian, Bove means one who tends cows.

My maiden name was Dow. Nobody could spell it right and it annoyed me.
They always wanted to add an "e" or "ell". So I would say, "It's like cow
with a d." This lead my friends to call me Cow Dow.

So when I got married I said... I'm still a cow!

Oh and sf is apparently a cow as well. Somebody here said so about a week
ago but I forget who.

lol

my ex plays a game with her dog... tips her over. The dog thinks its
the funniest thing, and rights herself. Wagging her tail wildly, and
acting like it's the funniest thing she's ever had done to her. And
waiting for more.

She's an odd dog. Missing her front treeth. Humane Society card said
she'd been abused. Had bb's in her they'd removed, and there's the
missing front teeth.... cute beagle, but she pees on carpets willy
nilly. Has mental issues... Who doesn't?

You have a history of surrounding yourself with very defective people, so why should it surprise you that they couldn't spell a 3 letter word?

That would be my guess too. If he can't tell humans from cattle, he
either needs glasses or a brain transplant and I'm going with the
brain thing because it's the only logical choice.

I never do. Many prepared foods are labeled "Refrigerate after
opening" but some I do, and some I don't.
