They're all different. DD has Directv and it has as many annoyances as Comcast. Comcast just lets you back up to the beginning of whatever show is on, Directv lets you back up to the spot where to started watching that particular channel. I do like being able to press the "live" button on Comcast and having it jump ahead over all the commercials to what's showing right now. -- Good Food. Good Friends. Good Memories. |

They're really not supposed to give East Coast feeds for the West Coast due to commercials are supposed to be local. In the old days of early Directv, back when you had to buy the expensive equipment and owned it, you could get both feeds and I loved it, but you couldn't get local stations without another set up by comcast. I kept that for about 2 years and then dropped it when they had to stop the East Coast feeds, blacking out the LA channels for news etc. Cheri |

You have to pay a monthly fee for the use of it, where with the VCR you didn't, they became very cheap and easily replaced. You could also record PPV movies and such with the VCR after you had rented them from Directv, now they just erase stuff. :-) Cheri |

Musta been 24+" and sat on a swivel stand. Probably weighed about 40-50 lbs including its wood cabinet. I remember the TV repairman hadda come out about once a yr to replace a burnt out tube. > My parents had a console in the early 1960's. A couple days in the repair shop fixed that and we had glorious color. We never did have a console system. While my mom was divorced, she dated a musician who had a combo hifi/music store. He warned her against consoles and turned her onto stereo components. We had one of the first stereo component (separate trntbl, tuner, amp, spkrs) systems in town. You know, the rig we all bought off the shelf by the late 60s early 70s. Her's was in about '55 and the tube amp was a kit and the spkrs homemade cabs. It rocked before ppl knew what rockin' was. OH!.... my brother did buy an old used console for $40 in '75. The TV was dead, but the stereo flat smoked. I remember the night he brought it home. We fired it up and rocked to Led Zep full blast all night long. Ahh, youth. ;) nb |

Usually when I am recording two shows at once, I will watch something on my playlist, but I do have 2 TV's side by side, so I can always watch the other TV live while two shows are recording on the other one. We do the double TV for sports. Luckily, the Directv installer set up some kind of RF remote for one, and another for the other one, they look the same but one remote doesn't control both TV's. Oh, the decisions we have to make. ;-) Cheri Cheri |

Me either, I have watched a couple, but I hate sitting at my computer trying to watch a show. I am very interested in streaming, but don't know the ins and outs of it so keep putting it off. Cheri |

You could record two at a time, but you had to either watch one previously recorded or one that was being recorded. The new Genie has 5 tuners! |

About the only thing I watch in real time is the 6 o'clock news and even that with a delay if it is dinner time. With the DVR you can watch, stop, watch another show (live or recorded) later resume the first at the same place. Much more versatile and no rewinding. Quick access, no hunting for a tape. You can set a series recording so you never miss your favorites. |

The Crying Indian. It was mostly about littering. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Suu84khNGY I wonder if we all wrote to them now at that address if there would be a reply? LOL Write to Box 771 Radio City Station, New York to find out. ;) A little thread drift here. Most people in this area don't toss stuff out the car window. I'm not talking about Dataw, I'm talking about the general area. I rarely see bags or drink cups from fast food places tossed by the roadside. Not much littering going on. That's a good thing. :) Jill |

Like Julie, heaven forbid you accidentally hit that button, you were stuck waiting before you could back out of it. After getting Fios, I never even looked at On Demand until quite recently. Much easier to access than Comcast was. Don't know if it's still the case today. That he got it as close as he did was a testament to his tenacity more than his knowledge. He was only a couple cold solders and reversed diodes from success. The repair shop corrected the mistakes with little effort. ;) nb |
