Any good not-smoked ham should do nicely with whatever bean soups you
make in the future. Even though you didn't care for it, at least you
now know the method.

I do indeed You saw the pic, yes. Well there is a huge chunk of meat in
there ... Next time I will follow advice and use a smaller piece ... <g>
That was a 2lb+ lump ... but at least it's all tender)

I am looking at other recipes now in the site sf shared. This the one I am
hoping to do next ...

LOL it's his pronunciation. He says it very quickly. The written text
does say "sauté shallots or onions".

I think you might have liked it better had you not used so much meat.

Nothing wrong with some good tender gammon in the fridge for sandwiches,
right? On your home-baked bread.

Let's be honest: HE liked it and that's what counts in this scenario.
You're willing to play with ingredients, but if he had hated it - that
would have been the end of your experimenting with beans in the slow
cooker. So glad to hear he's willing to experiment along with you
(within boundaries, of course).

I doubt it. She doesn't like smoked meat.

The dish was beans with some ham for flavoring, not ham with beans.
Less would have made a big difference.... she just plain used too much
meat. A quarter of the volume would have been more appropriate...
still too much for my taste, but it would have been better over all.

) The beans are cooked, the gammon is cooked through and falling to
pieces and he tells me the the broth is delicious) Too smokey for me, but
I wasn't making it for me but it has given me the knowledge and experience
to do it again with different meats, beans and soups! I haven't used my
crock pot for a long time because after previous attempts with this pot I
wasn't happy with the results. This has made a big difference)))) I
always felt it ran hot compared to my previous pot, but it sure worked well
this time) I couldn't possibly gauge how long it took because as I said,
I kept taking off the lid for various checks and changes, but it doesn't
matter. I would never cook this the same day I wanted to eat it.

I am a very happy bunny this evening))
