Really, you people!! She just asked a simple question. Was Rudeness and Sarcasm really necessary! Thanks to those that just answered her question.

Kind of late, man. The original question was posed
in 2013, and the thread had been dead (after a revival
in 2015 by some clueless Google Groups user) for a year
until you brought it back to life a second time.

Yeah, pretty dumb when there is plenty of fresh rudeness and sarcasm to
bitch about.

I wish I could just filter google groups, and be rid of these ^inept
clowns^ but too many good people insist on using it, unfortunately.

Oh no, not just you and not just this newsgroup.

The day I have no other option than GG is the day I stop posting to
USENET (which is NOT GG).

Great, it sounds exactly like a WEB BASED FORUM. Which has nothing to
do with Usenet.

You're right about that but the experience is pretty much the same. I can read and post to Usenet. As an added bonus, I don't have to trim, scroll, or click, or configure a "proper" newsreader on all my computers. Heck, I can read posts (but not post) on my phone. The flexibility is just wonderful.

The problem here is two differing schools of thought, or perceptions
about Usenet.

Some of us appreciate the 'lean and mean' aspect of traditional Usenet
where there is minimum bloat, where a post can be downloaded with only
a few kb of overhead - something not possible with google groups. I
like the nice clean interface of a properly formatted Usenet post and
newsreader, GG or anything else like it is the exact opposite of that.
Worst of all, GG attracts the clueless... who are *especially*
clueless about Usenet. I don't know what google did in the past year,
but suddenly we're getting these utterly clueless types replying to
ancient threads - some I've seen go as far back as the 1990s...

Lastly, nobody owns Usenet. Google likes to /think/ they bought
Usenet, but they ****ing well didn't and they don't own it. It's total
anathema to the spirit of Usenet. Plus, they have essentially
destroyed the Usenet archive they promised to maintain correctly.

Thunderbird is not lean or mean. Agent might be but I can't comment on
that. T-bird loads up the posts into memory on startup and if you have a
busy newsgroup, startup could take a while. GG is faster and doesn't
even need a desktop client program to access. If Usenet has a future, GG
will probably be an integral part of it.

These points are of a philosophical and political nature which I don't
discuss in newsgroups. Things go a lot smoother that way.

Indeed, but then it's not a real newsreader. It's an email client with
basic Usenet functionality tacked on almost as an afterthought.

Agent, XNews, Microplanet Gravity, slrn, Pan et al are real
newsreaders.

I can't help it if you chose T-Bird of all things, which is crap at
Usenet.

I agree with "dsi1"...for the little time we spend on this forum the Google Groups interface with any browser works okay.

I tried Agent a couple of times. It made me physically sick because it
reminded me of ProCom Plus Terminal program. PC+ was one of my favorite
programs but it was a 90's program and as far as I'm concerned, that was
the dark days of computers. I cannot abide by a program like that.

On a similar matter about Google, do you know anything about Google +?

I have started getting email asking if I know various people. Have they
started a group like facebook?

When someone first accesses Google Groups, every post back to the beginning
of time is available. Sure, the posting date is available, but it's not
always easy to spot. If you search for "mustard" (for example), it doesn't
take very long to scroll down to threads that have been dead for a year.

Yep. What a pity I'm too lazy to configure a newsreader. I admit it.
GG is the SpaghettiOs of Usenet.

At one time the SPAM from google groupers got so bad I k/f'd everything
that included a gmail address. It cut the SPAMMERS right out of the
picture but, as you say, left a few regular posters out in the cold.

Google+ is Google's attempt at a social network. It's been around for about 5 years but has never been as popular as Facebook. I think it has a more attractive homepage than FB because of a more vertical, open, format and there's no advertising. At one time there was an attempt to make Google Groups a part of Google+ with the ability to embed content within a post. That would have been cool but it proved to be too difficult to implement so that was abandoned.

I'm somewhat surprised that people insist on sticking with FB's nasty, ugly, cobbled-together, ad-riddled, interface and that Google+ isn't more popular. That's peoples for you. :)

Sorry O, I don't know much about google + other than I have noticed it
here and there. My interest in google starts and ends with their
search engine. So they're starting that sort of crap now (asking if
you know various people), are they?

I suspected it would be something like that. GG makes it too easy for
anyone to post to Usenet - I'll wager 99% of them don't know and
haven't even heard of Usenet. At least before GG, one had to configure
a newsreader... which helped filter out a lot of clueless newbs.

I don't know who decides how much time anyone spends on this 'forum'

slower and less convenient for me.

Thanks. I take care to trim my posts (unless I'm posting
angry) and to hit the darned carriage return occasionally.
I'm a habitual vi user, so it comes naturally to me.

I read a quick article in the popular press about a study
of typos in texts and e-mails. Apparently, people who are
bugged by misspelled and mis-punctuated text are introverts
with "not agreeable" personalities. I believe that "not
agreeable" means "isn't inclined to let things go just to
keep the peace". That's me in a nutshell. My co-workers
might aver that I'm also "disagreeable", but not to my face.
I always get a big laugh when I say "I'm a people person",
because it's obvious even to me that I'm not.

I just filter out googlegroups users. Too many normal users use gmail
(me for example), but it is possible to sort out messages from GG.

I wasn't using Thunderbird then... seems to me it was Outlook Express
with OEQuotefix... that was a long time ago. It was easier to just
killfile everything from gmail. You are one of the people who changed
your display address so I could still read your posts. :) Filtering
gmail addresses knocked out the SPAMMERS who were busy flooding
newsgroups trying to sell watches.

I was in the same situation as you and came across the website www.grainymustard.com. This is what it has to say about grainy mustard: Grainy mustard (whole grain mustard) is mustard that is made with visible mustard seeds. The ingredients usually found in grain mustard are vinegar, mustard seeds, water, white wine, salt, sugar, natural flavors, and lactic acid. The website also gives reviews and links to amazon where you can buy grainy mustard. I would suggest checking this website out.
