In a recent thread on malware someone recommended Malwarebytes. I
downloaded it and ran it.It found something in my wife's profile, and she had previously had an incident of one of her accounts sending out emails to her contacts. What a coincidence that two days before my trial period ended all my email contacts got suspicious emails with an attachment. |

There is a free version, and you may like to do a search on some reviews, and see if they reflect your perception of Malwarebytes? |

Why? Are there some naysayers? I will check. Daughter and I have the Pro version which you do have to pay for. |

After I posted that I did remember a recent boo boo on their part. A friend had told me about it. Let me see if I can dig up a link. Here it is: http://virtualadministrator.com/blog...ing-computers/ I think most people were unaffected though. |

I had something prior that came recommended to me by someone on another newsgroup but it was crap. I want to say that it was Adaware but that might be wrong. As soon as I got it, not only did I get all sorts of spam but it was constantly telling me that it found suspicious stuff on my computer that wasn't really suspicious at all. Does your wife have Facebook? I am getting a lot of emails from people on my Facebook with attachments. I know that it isn't them simply because they refer to me as Julia and I don't go by that. |

That is likely because the survivors [me included] take forever to tell Facebook that the person has died. Facebook will convert the page to a memorial page so folks can still post to the wall if they care to, but no-one will get friend requests. Hopefully I'll get around to it in less than 3 years-- but at the rate I'm 'catching up' now, it could be that long. Jim |

I can't remember now. I had some problem with one of their programs. They took over my computer by remote and I watched in horror as they took off the Malwarebytes. Said it was in conflict with their service. Then a few days later, I got a virus that disabled my Norton. Had to take it to the shop. And what did they put on there to find it? Yep! Malwarebytes! Then at some point later (can't remember when), my trial ran out and I had to buy. Same thing happened with my daughter's computer. My brother freaked when I told him this and he said that he thought the Pro version that we bought was a scam. Doesn't seem to be at all. Perhaps the old version could be used for free for a long time? But this one not? |

The only difference is that you don't have the flash scan with the free version, which in most cases is not necessary anyway. However, you are *not* required to buy the pay version to get it free. -- Food is an important part of a balanced diet. |

Then I installed it again, but there is no difference other than the one I noted in another post. I thought my trial period ran out yesterday, but I just ran a flash scan and it seems to still be doing that for me - so I have no idea what the real difference is at this point in time. -- Food is an important part of a balanced diet. |

I have had the free version for years but mainly use Microsoft Security Essentials which works pretty well. But if I have a problem, I click on malwarebytes and it updates and then goes looking. My husband has AVAST- the free version which works well too. aloha, Cea |

Our MBAMs simply quit working and then it said that we needed to upgrade. |
