In a recent thread on malware someone recommended Malwarebytes. I
downloaded it and ran it.It found something in my wife's profile, and she had previously had an incident of one of her accounts sending out emails to her contacts. What a coincidence that two days before my trial period ended all my email contacts got suspicious emails with an attachment. |

There is a free version, and you may like to do a search on some reviews, and see if they reflect your perception of Malwarebytes? |

I had something prior that came recommended to me by someone on another newsgroup but it was crap. I want to say that it was Adaware but that might be wrong. As soon as I got it, not only did I get all sorts of spam but it was constantly telling me that it found suspicious stuff on my computer that wasn't really suspicious at all. Does your wife have Facebook? I am getting a lot of emails from people on my Facebook with attachments. I know that it isn't them simply because they refer to me as Julia and I don't go by that. |

Why? Are there some naysayers? I will check. Daughter and I have the Pro version which you do have to pay for. |

After I posted that I did remember a recent boo boo on their part. A friend had told me about it. Let me see if I can dig up a link. Here it is: http://virtualadministrator.com/blog...ing-computers/ I think most people were unaffected though. |

That is likely because the survivors [me included] take forever to tell Facebook that the person has died. Facebook will convert the page to a memorial page so folks can still post to the wall if they care to, but no-one will get friend requests. Hopefully I'll get around to it in less than 3 years-- but at the rate I'm 'catching up' now, it could be that long. Jim |

I can't remember now. I had some problem with one of their programs. They took over my computer by remote and I watched in horror as they took off the Malwarebytes. Said it was in conflict with their service. Then a few days later, I got a virus that disabled my Norton. Had to take it to the shop. And what did they put on there to find it? Yep! Malwarebytes! Then at some point later (can't remember when), my trial ran out and I had to buy. Same thing happened with my daughter's computer. My brother freaked when I told him this and he said that he thought the Pro version that we bought was a scam. Doesn't seem to be at all. Perhaps the old version could be used for free for a long time? But this one not? |

I do use it. I will look. I don't think it lists any such thing. But I will go look now. *sigh* Okay. I see that it is listed but I still don't know what it means. Says it will analyze memory and autorun objects. Still don't know what that means or why I would need to do it. I only ever perform the quick or full scan. |

Could have been the Carbonite because I had trouble with that too. Whichever it was, the idiot tech removed the Malwarebytes. Whichever of these it was, it just wouldn't load. Have had problems with Norton telling me that I need to renew when I do not. Have had to contact them and they have to jump through hoops to get it going again. Had the same problem with Carbonite at least once. |

However, my main security software, ESET, also protects against malware so Spybot has proved to be superfluous. From what I can see, Kaspersky is currently rated as better than ESET so I reckon you probably have malware protection. Go into your Kaspersky program and see what it protects you against or alternatively go to their website. Graham |

In fact, some who have just basic AV software advocate having 2 spyware programs. Spybot doesn't interfere with ESET and ESET uses a similar algorithm to Kaspersky AIUI. By the way, I know sod-all about such things in general. I'm just recounting my experience. I have Kaspersky on my tablet. Graham |
