As I said before, I tend not to think of people by color. I have one friend on my Facebook that I haven't seen in person since High School. For some reason I always thought of her as French when in fact she is not. She thought she was African American but... Her husband bought her some sort of kit to determine her ancestry. I can't remember all of her ancestry but there was Chinese in there! She doesn't look Chinese but looks like a very light skinned black. One of her nieces was on the episode of Chopped where they had teens on there and she looked totally white. The odd thing is that people might associate themselves with a certain ethnicity yet they don't necessarily look that way to others. I remember arguing with a co-worker because I didn't think she was black. She then opened her mouth so that I could look inside. Not sure what it was that I was supposed to see. I just said... Okay! You're black! I had another couple of coworkers who called themselves black and yet they had the prettiest green eyes and naturally golden blonde/blond hair. Their skin to me just looked like they had a nice golden tan. My friend who was white, married a black man. One of her daughters had several children by different fathers. Not sure of the ethnicities. Don't even know the whole story there. There were issues with the daughter and my friend and her husband wound up getting custody of the grandkids. But... The one little girl had the same golden blonde hair, golden skin and beautiful green eyes. In all cases, their hair was not the "black" texture but more like big loopy curls. I am part Cherokee Indian but you wouldn't know by looking at me. Or maybe you would. I have met several people who were part Cherokee and we all have similar coloring. Greenish eyes that tend to change color depending on our mood or what we are wearing, and dishwater blonde hair. We all have high cheekbones and the same sort of eye shape. No prominent upper lids. |
