That's entirely believable.

I felt vertigo just watching that video.

The pre-school as well as the elementary school nearby, was created by
the Church of the Crossroads, located near the University of Hawaii. It
was an enclave of 60s, 70s, 80s liberal activist thought. The schools
were pretty much secular though, nor were we ever members of the church.
The Church of the Crossroad's mission statement sums it up:

"At the end of its ninth decade, Church of the Crossroads continues to
be a consciously inclusive church. We are open to all people regardless
of gender, sexual orientation, or ethnic background*. We have declared
these principles in our Just Peace and Open and Affirming Covenants.
Concerned about issues of justice and peace, our church has continually
been in the forefront of social issues–in early years assisting in the
formation of labor unions, and declaring itself a sanctuary during the
Vietnam War. More recently the church has become actively involved in
environmental issues, both locally and internationally, and has
incorporated stewardship of the earth as a tenet in its just peace
covenant. We also initiated the establishment of a transition home open
to women and children who are the victims of domestic violence. We
declared ourselves an Open and Affirming (ONA) congregation – our
explicit welcome of *******, ***, bisexual, transgender, and queer folk
– more than two decades ago."

That was an awesome parody but I never could figure out the appeal to
kids, not that understanding would matter very much. Who can figure out
kids?

I didn't like "Master's of the Universe" due to aesthetic reasons. The
jerky animation made "The Flintstones" look like live action. OTOH, this
looks like a real hoot.

That would be around 1972. "Pali Ridge" is blues - not regular blues or
urban blues or country blues. It's the kind of blues you'd play in outer
space. :-)

A sci-fi flick which shows future people fighting with ancient
broadswords is strictly post-Star Wars. The big hair and glittery stuff
is totally 80s. I'll have to ask my son if he ever saw that movie. I
took him to see "The Terminator" and he threw up in the theater. Boy
those were the best years of our lives...

Earlier than I thought, and yeah I like that description, outer space
blues, something the Silver Surfer would be listening to.

One of Jimi's 5 greatest solos.

Is this the Frank Langella who had a perpetual tan? People used to make
fun of that back in the day. I'm not really familiar with his work.
Seems the jokes were always about him as Dracula with his "Hollywood tan".

No, I believe you're thinking of George Hamilton, who played Dracula
in "Love at First Bite." (FWIW, Frank Langella also played Dracula at
least once.)

Frank Langella has had a varied career, including campy stuff like Masters
of the Universe and Cutthroat Island, as well as serious fare like
Frost/Nixon and Good Night and Good Luck. Many directors have used
him as a reliable villain.

Is that true or just in jest? If true, that is amazingly crazy!

Civil War enactment? That's the way it's turning out for the country.
Most wars truly end when the last survivors die of old age but all the
old resentments are still lingering. It's a very odd thing.

Hopefully, the court will not lose focus on what this really is - a
labor dispute.

I remember Anna from chat. I don't ever recall her posting to the group
so that must have been before my time. She's a sweetheart.

I believe it, the islands have some incredible land/sea wind events and
that ridge is thinner than anything I have ever seen people climb.

Yes.

That is exactly where I see this heading.

Good insight, I think what we need to see is a whole lot of the archaic
rhetoric toned won in this.

Interesting.

She's had a varied life off stage for sure.

But she appears to be immune to marriage, now at least:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whoopi_Goldberg

She has stated that she has no future plans to marry again, commenting
"Some people are not meant to be married and I am not meant to. I’m sure
it is wonderful for lots of people".

Paula was never in court, but was obliged to answer questions under oath in a deposition.

Her lawyer sucks however, and did not apply for a protective order. So all her answers were made public.

I certainly don't recall to Paula's admitting to any racist acts. What were they?

That's my first memory of Frank Langella, I saw him on Broadway
in Dracula.

I love that movie, really. The scene with the uncle talking to Whinail about
his "issue" always cracks me up

It is a great movie. I have watched it several times. It is one of the
best opening scenes I have ever seen.... making a cup of tea in a filthy
cheap unheated apartment, and that song in the background. It is a
miserable rainy day here, perhaps a good day to stay in and watch
Withnail and I.

LOL, here the weather is just like that: rainy and cold, it seems to be in
March: the max temp today didn't reach 75°F. Maybe this evening I'll see W&I
again

Phew.. It is refreshing to see honesty in this issue. I know it is not
PC to use that word these days.. if you aren't black, but I know it was
used a lot back then.... without having to look over both shoulders
before saying it.

The only time I have ever heard my wife say "the F word" was when I
washed and dried her good wool skirt along with my laundry. However, she
does use the term "F word" every spring when the we see Forsythia bushes
are in bloom and our Forsythia sprouts only one or two flowers.
For her, the F in Fword is Forsythia.

I was taught "monkey" and I only envisioned an animal when I said the
rhyme, but apparently that was a racist word too because it was
"tiger" by the time my children came along.
