I snapped this on my cell phone when I was in bed feeling sick today. He
and my others were sending their healing purrs my way, but it got too crowded and I had to get out of bed. http://oi45.tinypic.com/33pet50.jpg This is Rhett. He's a huge tabby, you can probably tell by his feet, he has a littermate sister who looks like him but she's a gray tabby named, of course, Scarlett. I have Shamrock who is my biter and Bonnie the former feral. They were all with me, but Rhett was just posing for a pic. |

Sort of OB Food, I contemplated putting a slide bolt on the pantry in the kitchen of my apartment in Cordova. That's where the cat food was. This was years ago, she was (best guess) 2 or 3 years old. Back then she got dry kibble every day and a can of Fancy Feast (FF) on *Sunday* as a treat. She knew where that FF was. One Saturday opened the door to the pantry. She maneuvered around things on the pantry floor and got a can of FF off the bottom shelf. She scooted it to the middle of the kitchen floor, sat down and waited. When I walked in I busted out laughing! What a smart girl! Another OB Food: sense of smell or can she read? The can of FF was right next to a can of chopped green chili peppers. Exactly the same size can. How did she know which one to choose? I also had to close off the metal bi-fold doors in front of the washer & dryer. She figured out how to open them. She jumped up on top of the dryer, then down between the dryer and the wall. Of course she couldn't jump back up again, no room to leap. I had to move the dryer to get her out. After that I used long rubber bands to tie the doorknobs together so she couldn't push the doors open. Cats are entertaining, that's for sure! Jill |

But if they ever develop opposable thumbs, I'm > toast... > A friend of mine has a Siamese called 'Gadget', and a big boofy pooch called 'Jackie Tan' (yes, he's tan and white). Seems Gadget is very particular about who gets near him and is allowed to touch him and 'rules the roost' in the house. That didn't wash with me, and every time I go there, I rough him up and smack him around. Then ignore him. He then comes looking for me, rubbing himself up against my legs, jumping up on my lap, and allowing me to rough him up some more, rough massages, dragging around on the floor, grabbing his head in my hand and shaking it, grabbing his ears etc.... and he loves it!! Anyone else tries it.... he shreds them!! Jackie Tan tried the big boofy "I'm the top dog" crap with me, and I smacked him in the mouth.... he's nipped a few other people (the SO included), and he went to try it once with me and wore the consequences..... now he too comes up and wants to 'play nice' with me, but terrorises everyone else!! Pets/animals will rule your life and treat you like shit if you let them, you have to show them who is 'top dog'.... unless of course you like being subjegated by everyone. -- Peter Brisbane Australia Success isn't so difficult. He (Charlie) knew the kibble was in the pantry. That will start your day with a smile. I have no idea which of my cats in my history found out that scratching vigorously at their collar with the bell on it would wake the folks up. Suki and Maya spend time together on my bed, occasionally sniff each other and will make tentative overtures towards mutual grooming. One thing Suki learned from Maya is how to put your paw out gently to request attention; before that, she would try to roughhouse. So she watched Maya, saw that Maya got attention doing that and copied the gesture with expected results. Now she uses it all the time instead of attacking to get attention. -- Traditions are group efforts to keep the unexpected from happening. -- Barbara Tober |

He wasn't strong enough of course and it was amusing to watch so we didn't interfere. Then one day we found the door opened and Tiglat and our dog (Kanyak, a GSD+Dobe mix) sitting before it and gazing inside. Tiglat had somehow persuaded? taught? Kanyak to pry the door open with his muzzle. We had to take additional precautions after that. -- Bob www.kanyak.com |
