I was watching a regional grilling show and thought this was a fun
recipe. One baked loaf, unsliced and domed, of dark brown pumpernickel bread. It looks like a football and this would be a good NYE or football party food. Don't cut all the way thru, but make 1inch slices one direction and then again the opposite direction, leaving about one inch on the bottom of the loaf whole/unsliced. This will result in 1inch pillars of bread that fan out slightly from the base. Now stuff sliced onions and green peppers (I don't like green peppers would probably use red) into the crevices. Then stuff drained crisp sauerkraut bought from the refrigerated section at the store. Then stuff browned hamburger crumbles. Then stuff shredded cheeses (they used a gouda and a hot wings flavored colby.) Or mix all of this together in a bowl and then stuff freely lol. They wrapped in tinfoil and indirect baked in the grill but also said 350 degree oven would work as well. I cant remember how long ?1hr? :-) When done the bread has melded back together as a loaf and you can slice again. |
