So the one plant I didn't plant this year is the biggest and baddest
plant in my little garden. (I planted zucchini last year.) It is about 10 feet long and has elephant ear size leaves. I like zucchini, but this one plant is going to produce a bushel! I count 9 started already and that is only the ones I can see. There are always some hidden ones. And there's more flowers blooming. I figure the zucchini I can't eat I can use to throw at the damn squirrel that is already eying the tomato plants. Squirrels around here are Satan's evil illegitimate spawn. |

Nice- I believe in everything in moderation! Zucchini is one of the few things we can grow here in the Pacific NW. |

Gardens are very iffy here. Some years we get a ton of rain. There isn't a lot of sun and many years not much heat. Eastern Washington is good for growing. Western Washington? Not so much. |

Nobody around here leaves their car unlocked in zucchini season.... N. |

I used to grow a lot of it, but the past couple of years critters eat them before I can, so I stopped the effort. Cheri |

If it wasn't the critters, it was the weather. The last couple of times I tried to grow tomatoes, they rotted because there was so much rain. |

Yeah, tomatoes don't do well in my neighborhood either. My leeks are growing, and I have berries ripening. I do have 6 tomato plants, but don't have high hopes for them! |

I don't care for it all that much, but after hearing how prolific the plants are I thought I'd see for myself. This plant grew to monstrous proportions and still, no zukes. Whatever I did wrong, the plant is still too large to fit into my plans. You know, all that garden space for something I don't have much use for. I'd rather have eggplant if I was going to plant something like that. Besides, I'm at the farmer's market all the time during the summer, I could buy a bushel of zucchini for next to nothing if I wanted them. nancy |

Bummer. I hate it when that happens- here, it's usually strawberries that disappear. Kinda on the same subject- I had the kid clean up dog poop yesterday so I could mow, and we found bear shit in the backyard...hope it stays out of the garden! |

There are about dozen that are growing as I type-- and those are the ones I can see. Zucchini plants love to play "hide the zucchini"! |
