I never knew her before she was on the air-- but there is a good
chance that all of her advisors advised her to lose the accent if she
wanted to make it in the 'big time'.

Millions are spent every year teaching southerners [and probably
NYers] to speak "American Broadcast English".

Maybe once she 'made it' she said screw them and went back to her
*real* accent.
