Default The Search for Sriracha part II

Some months ago I visited every grocery store in town, looking for
Sriracha, which I _knew_ I had seen on the shelf in one of them. None
had it or had even heard of it. Finally went down to Hartford and got
it at the big Asian grocery.

Well, today, I discovered where I had seen it. It wasn't in a grocery
store, it was in Wal-Mart of all places. Was looking for a gallon of
distilled white vinegar to sterilize the CPAP and by golly right across
from the vinegar, there it was.

Wal-Mart also carries the clothes spot cleaners that I haven't seen
since Long's Drugs closed here. I cannot think of a single thing good
about CVS -- they should have stayed in Manhattan.

You must be thinking of Duane Reade. CVS started out in Rhode Island.

I've never been to Rhode Island. The first and only CVSs I saw for
years and years were in Manhattan.

This is the city. No reason to make a major trip out of a drugstore
run, especially when there are two Walgreens within easy walking
distance. Good to hear another chain is making in roads though. I
was mildly annoyed when Walgreens bought all the Rite Aide locations
in town.

Around here the CVS and Walgreens are quite often on opposing corners of
the same intersections.

i think grocery stores in general have a lower profit margin than drug
stores.

We got two new CVS stores last year. They are more expensive than
Walgreens. They are also close, but not on the same corners, as the
Walgreens stores.

For some reason I have two CVS cards. One is very old and one I got when
the new store opened. When they have a sale on Coke 12 packs, I use each
card on different days. Very helpful now that I'm on a Coke Zero kick. :-)

Yeah, me, neither. My son and his lady friend were surprised I didn't
have any in my pantry during their last visit - but really hot stuff
doesn't agree with me, so I routinely don't have it or Tabasco
around. Someone I asked told me to look for the "rooster" and the red
plastic bottle - easy enough to find in the condiment aisle. I don't
know if this brand is the best - but it's everywhere.

We had a drugstore chain called "Osco," which changed to CVS - I agree
- I've never found anything I was looking for at CVS, and they were
common items.

That stuff will kill ya. ;-) How come you drink it? I haven't drunk
any soft drink since, oh, about 1972. It's just junk. I'm just
sayin' .... it isn't personal.

Osco still exists in Chicago and the burbs but only the stores that
were part of Jewel food stores. CVS bought all the freestanding
stores about 6 years ago.

The clerk at Von's (Safeway) handed me a card, no paperwork, when I

I can't speak for Randall's but my Safeway card works fine at Vons and at
Homeland (Oklahoma branch of Safeway).

That's the drill at most stores, anymore. You no longer care, the clerks
no longer care. Here, swipe it. Jes move along.
