Default fridge do, dah's-maybe ot

I finally replaced my old fridge with a new, larger, sterile looking
whiter one. My old one was colourfully decorated with over twelve
years of memories. I miss it! Wondering if I'll get used to all
this empty space or should I start again on the pics. Is it still
cool to have stuff on the fridge? e.

The best material for covering a fridge door is a full length mirror.

Does it matter whether it's cool?

When I got a new fridge a few weeks ago, I just put back
all the stuff that was on the old one. Mind you, it was
mundane junk like shopping lists, a ziploc with coupons,
a calendar and a few magnets. I keep my memories in
my brain.

I don't care much about coolness--except for the internal
temperature of the fridge. I WAS planning to have nothing on my
new fridge, moving the things currently on my fridge across the
hall and onto the freezer. BUT my spare look is already
compromised because someone scratched the new fridge, and I am now
camouflaging that with a magnet.

I'm a little envious. I've got vintage 1985 almond formica cabinets.
And
they're cheap crap. But it doesn't look like there's an upgrade
anytime
soon. I comfort myself with the knowledge that attractive cabinets
wouldn't have any effect on my cooking.

My bisque Kenmore complements the cabinets tolerably well. Although
since the calendar takes up most of one side, one could think of it
as a "Chihuly-colored" fridge.

Hiya, PVC! Nice to see you got the new keyboard which can accommodate your
extra-fat fingers. Been hitting the hooch pretty hard today, haven't ya? Was
it a COMPLETELY liquid lunch, or did you have your customary "everything ya
got" order at McDonald's, too?

Have you considered refacing your cabinets? There are lots of
companies in the business, so you wouldn't have to do it yourself.

Thanks for suggesting it. However...

They're just not worth it. The carcases are junk. The drawer
slides are junk. The pullout shelves don't even have slides.
Their configuration is moronic. I think they were spec'd
by someone who doesn't cook.

Don't get me wrong; the kitchen is workable. Better than
most apartment kitchens I've had. It's just butt-ugly.

I hear ya. It's not worth refacing if the box isn't sturdy, but all
the rest of your problems can be fixed by the refacers.

You have more positive going than a lot of people then. Some of us
don't have a decent work triangle, me included. I'd take a cruddy,
but workable kitchen over a pretty, but awkward one. You can always
do a kitchen facelift later, but moving things around to fix the
triangle costs big money.

I have a friend that always cleans up my fridge pics. Thought I'd see
how it went with a clean space, but after a week I realize I hate the
look. And I do have new stuff to put up - grand twins born a month
ago and a new wee one arriving tomorrow. e.

I like that concept. It's a nice built in - you can have cabinets top
and bottom.

Cool or not, I stopped with the magnets when I noticed microscopic
bits of the paint missing. If I ever do use a magnet, it's got paper
under it.

Side by side, over, under? And why you chose the layout you did?

Sadly, I have no spare wall space. I'd settle for a refrigerator with
french doors, but I don't even have that much width to donate to the
cause.

I was a little imprecise. The calendar takes up most of the upper
right quadrant of the fridge. You can't get far enough away from
the fridge to view the entire thing at once, and I rarely walk around
my own kitchen looking down, so the lower half almost doesn't
register with me.

It's a pretty calendar, though.

:-) My fridge is covered with stuff. It's convenient. Where else
are you supposed to put the pictures?
Congratulations on new bebé!

actually, it's more like pictures of aretha franklin, richard nixon
resigning, a postcard of 'american gothic' and jack benny as that great,
great polish actor, joseph tura. thanks for playing, though.
