I still have the congratulatory telegram Mom got from him, and it got into the papers that they had a son. When Mom mentioned it to the nurses, they brought me in and undressed me so she could see for sure that they had a daughter!!! Nan In DE |

Took it to a local photo studio (not one of those one hour jobs but a real photo studio) and they developed the film. Turned out to be pictures made the day I was born, September 23, 1939. Pictures of Mom and then Dad holding me as a newborn, really caused a Wow! at our house. Value your Mom as long as you can, my MIL lived to be 100 years old and we miss her now. |

Isn't serendipity wonderful. Last December I received an email from a fellow in England who had come across my father's wartime diary and some family photos and wanted to return them to our family. He had been cleaning out the estate of his late aunt. The woman had had an older brother who was killed in the war, and that man had been the tail gunner in my father's plane. They had been shot down over Denmark. My father had been able to bail out and eventually escaped to Sweden and back to England, but he had been presumed dead. Whoever it was that sent the personal effects of the crew to their families had accidentally included some of my father's things with his. They had sat in a drawer in that woman's house for more than 66 years and eventually found their way to me. |

No, you're right about that. The OP fell prey to a common grammatical error. (Two of them, actually.) The dictionary definition of "lest" is "for fear that". So "lest we forget" means "for fear that we should forget", or as it is used here, "so that we do not forget". Cindy Hamilton |
