Low carb, but not low calorie. It replaces the buns
with two fried chicken breasts.

I'm afraid to ask, but too scared to look. The painfully obvious
question is: What's in the middle?

Can't imagine why. Chicken is not particularly gout inducing.

I don't agree. I don't think he was a charlatan or a quack. On the
other hand, those who follow an "Atkins" diet without ever reading his
book or actually knowing what the diet is, are sadly misleading
themselves.

Many people who claim to be following an "Atkins" diet are just using it
as an excuse to eat what they want.

My wife follows an "Atkins" diet. She eats very little flour, rarely has
potatoes or rice, small amounts of high carb anything, but she can eat
lots of meat, cheese, fruit and vegetables. She looks good.

Your right.

You basically got carbs, fats, and proteins. Eleminate, or
drastically reduce, any one and you will lose weight. Eat sensibly
and just reduce overall calorie intake and you will also lose weight
and not suffer any bizarre side effects of doing the former. Atkins
was a quack:

Basic common nutritional sense.

I know it's not a popular dietary concept, specially when one can eat a whole
pound of bacon in one sitting and feel totally guilt free cuz some
quack sez so. Do you really believe such nonsense?

Bottom line:
less food + more exercise = overall weight loss.

Here's how it works - this is the theory behind "Atkins" & "the drinking
man's diet' and for a time " the "Air Force Diet" used by the Air force
academy very many years ago. This diet "forces" the body to burn fat. Read
on if you're interested.

The biggest problem is about the 4th or 5th day you would KILL someone for a

Get my book "The Chocolate, Booze, and Tobacco Diet".
It tells you what the big whole grain food companies
don't want you to know! For example, did you know
that fresh vegetables make you fat?

When I see what my wife's regime involves I can tell you that it is not
quackery. She eats a fairly well balanced diet that does not leave her
hungry and she gets regular exercise. First thing every morning she
takes the dogs for a walk out to the bush behind us and goes a minimum
of one kilometer, often more. Then she comes back and makes herself a
breakfast that makes my arteries clog just to think about it. She will
have a couple strips of bacon, an egg or two, s couple slices of
breakfast sausage, some cheese and yogurt (plain) with fruit on it.

She snacks on fruit and/or vegetables. Dinner is usually some sort beef,
pork, chicken or fish and some vegetables. Fruit for dessert.

She goes to the gym 2-3 times a week, often takes the dogs on a second
long walk and on Friday afternoons she meets a bunch of friends who have
a walking group and they walk 3-4 miles.

She has has no cholestoral problems and keeps her weight down. She does
not eat usually bread or other flour products or potatoes, except on
rare occasions. She sometimes has a small portion of rice or pasta. She
avoids vegetables like legumes that are high in carbs.

It works for her.

I've lost over 60 lbs. following a low carb eating plan and lifestyle,
and I don't exercise as much as I'd like as I just don't have the time.
;-)

Low carbing works but one thing I had to learn is that "low carb" is not
"no carb". It actually works better if you actually read the book and
follow the eating plan.

I lost 40 pounds about 7 years ago and kept it off
until this year. I've added back 10 pounds, but it's
all muscle. I've increased my workouts to an hour
a day on my elliptical machine at its highest
resistance setting. I don't really follow my
weight anymore. I estimate my body fat by the
pinch test, and I've got less fat now than at
any time since my early twenties.

After a few years of strict low carbing, I've
gone back to eating some whole grains, usually
barley in soups or brown rice by itself. I
think the fiber is important for my digestive
tract. I think glycemic index is as important
as carb content -- boiled whole grains are far
less hunger-inducing than breads, pasta, fried
potatoes, etc.

My friend was on the Atkins diet and went to the doctor for a check up
as usual. He told her she was eating too much protein and it was
affecting her kidneys. He asked her if she was on a diet and she told
him that she was on the Atkins diet. The doctor told her that many
people suffer kidney problems because of the high protein on that diet.
He told her to eat everything in moderation and take a good long walk
every day. Needless to say she is feeling great and looking great now
and soooo much happier.

I agree. All this hoopla about empty calories from starches and
sugars, and diabetes - such nonsense!

Just stuff yourself with bleached enriched flour breads and cakes! Who
cares about diabetes!

Don't let the scientists distract you with stories that our stomachs
are not designed for breads because our ancestors ate only fruits,
vegetables and meats and no grains. Science is all poppycock!

Just stuff yourself with breads and pastas and potatoes! Remember:
when it comes to government's regulations on school lunches - potato
is a vegetable, and so is ketchup.
