I like Hamburger Helper® every once in a while. I've been kind of
overdoing it with my diet this week* and I was Jonesing for something starchy with some protein in it. And I had a couple of boxes of HH in the pantry, so... "Asian (Hamburger) Helper" Mongolian-Style Beef. :-P It's a new flavor, and I sure hope it doesn't last long. I don't know what's Asian about it, unless it's because it's kind of sweet -- the next ingredient after the noodles is sugar -- but it cooks up into a thick paste. I ate a couple of bites and then had a bowl of radish soup for lunch instead. I shredded a half a head of cabbage and added that to loosen it up. Not sure if I'll eat it (with a bunch of cayenne and garlic added to hide the taste) or if the dog will get most of it. Bob *I haven't been counting calories, but Thursday night I added 'em up to see why I was so hungry -- I had only had about 600 to 650 calories that day. |

Isn't "Mongolian-Style Beef" a slab of raw dead cow that has been riding around squished under the saddle of your horse all day? |

Having its origins in Taiwan in the mid to late 20th century, the so-called "Mongolian barbecue", a popular dish in American and Canadian Chinese restaurants, consists of thinly sliced lamb, beef, chicken, pork, or other meat, seasonings, vegetables, and noodles, or a combination thereof, that are quickly cooked over a flat circular metal surface that has been heated. <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regional_variations_of_barbecue#Mongolia> 'mongolian barbecues' are fairly common in the d.c. area (and elsewhere, i'm sure). typically, the diner selects the type of meat and vegetables and a sauce, and it is cooked form him on a hot griddle, like japanese *teppanyaki* or koean *bulgogi* (which see). your pal, blake |

That is not enough calories, I can see why you were hungry. I cooked Hamburger Helper when I was a teenager, but I haven't cooked it sense then. Here is a big shocker, I have never cooked Rice -a -Roni before. I always wondered what I was missing. I still don't know. lol Becca |

I actually have a box of the previously mentioned HH in my cupboard right now. I don't recall how long it's been there, but I only do HH once in a GREAT while, and I always seem to regret it when I do. lol -J |

I saw this new flavor a few weeks ago when they were on sale and they suckered me. :-) The "Beef Pasta" flavor and the "Salisbury" are OK. Not something I would want to eat more than a couple of times per month. But generally if you want that kind of meal you're better off using a blue box of macaroni and cheese mix and following the basic directions for HH. (it tastes better and it's cheaper) Don't ask me how I know this... Bob |

The prizes they gave away were Rice-a-Roni, Turtle Wax and Jungle Gardenia perfume. The only one I ever tried was Turtle Wax, but after all these years, this useless information is still crammed in my brain. Becca |

I lived on Hamburger Helper when I was in college. I guess they're okay if you're in a hurry and really don't feel like cooking but they're not something I would want to eat om a regular basis. That Mongolian-Style beef one sounds horrible. Of course the key word here is "Style". Exactly what do they mean by "Style"? |

Take pity, I beg you! You're brave. I haven't ever been able to try one - the picture of that "cheeseburger" one has totally ruined any chance that I'll ever try one. ;-) N. |
