I don't care for salt or pepper on fruit, but on the rare occasion
that I have both cantaloupe and red-eye gravy, the gravy is delicious

It's impossible to see one's tongue planted firmly in one's cheek on
Usenet but, I'm quite sure that's where Bob's was.
The original post. My son-in-law is the chef at a rather nice
little restaurant on Nova Scotia's South Shore. The last time we went
down for a visit he served us some beautiful fresh strawberries
lightly dusted with black pepper and they were very delicious.

Maybe a person just has to really like black pepper in order to appreciate such
things. I personally am not a fan of black pepper. The only thing I use it on
is scrambled eggs or in cooked dried beans or in bean soup. It's not a heat
thing either since I like jalapenos and cayenne pepper. I simply don't like
the taste of black pepper all that much.

Maybe a person just has to really like black pepper in order to appreciate such
things. I personally am not a fan of black pepper. The only thing I use it on
is scrambled eggs or in cooked dried beans or in bean soup. It's not a heat
thing either since I like jalapenos and cayenne pepper. I simply don't like

on the contrary - cantaloupe without pepper isn't worth eating. on
the other hand, my dad will put salt on grapefruit.

Yup, pepper on canteloupe and a sprinkle of ginger on honeydew to accent
the flavors of the melons.

Well, it's not a new, weird idea anyway. According to the British Museum, at
least. I had a copy of "the British Museum cookbook" and it claims the
Romans used to use pepper a lot on all sorts of fruit. They had some pepper
recipes, too, so rush out and get the book :-)
