Personally I prefer a brand called Tajin Fruit Seasoning. It comes in a plastic shaker that seems to last better in the Houston humidity without caking up. It's great on apples, melons, and even tomato slices. If you're drinking tequila you can put a bit of this stuff on your hand to lick before downing a shot. It's a salty-sour-hot blast of flavor. -- Pete Romfh, Telecom Geek & Amateur Gourmet. promfh at hal dash pc dot org |

I tried salt and pepper on watermelon earlier this summer, and thought it was quite good. (Then I made a watermelon salsa to put on top of Dungeness crab tostadas. That was good, too.) I've got a cantaloupe sitting on my counter right now; maybe I'll try The Widow Geraldine's treatment with it. Bob |

The only thing I use it on is scrambled eggs or in cooked dried beans or in bean soup. It's not a heat thing either since I like jalapenos and cayenne pepper. I simply don't like the taste of black pepper all that much. |

Well, it's not a new, weird idea anyway. According to the British Museum, at
least. I had a copy of "the British Museum cookbook" and it claims the Romans used to use pepper a lot on all sorts of fruit. They had some pepper recipes, too, so rush out and get the book :-) Richard.
