Default Camphor chip

Hi,

Everytime I see receipes for camphor smoked duck I end up Googling for
"camphor chips" and I find no relavent hits that would allow me to
purchase camphor chips. Why is this?

Thanks,

Probably because camphorwood is one word and is not very popular in chip form.
You'll likely need to make your own chips.... search for <camphorwood, lumber>,
or check if there is a local lumber your near you that stocks exotic woods,
they can usually order some for you.

Call their 800#:

Partly because camphor doesn't come in chips as such.
What is needed is camphor bark from Cinnamomum camphora. Might be able
to get some at the Asian grocers or else ask a friend in Florida or
Hawaii to send you some.

I get slightly more hits, none mail order, with "camphor tablets".

It comes in teeny little vials in Indian grocery stores. I've never
seen it anywhere else. We bought ours to make a camphor flavored milk
pudding. The remainder evaporated, despite being in an apparently
sealed container, so I'd recommend buying the smallest quantity.

Those small vials from the Asian groceries contain synthetic camphor (camphor
has been synthesized since trhe early 1930s), a crystaline powder
(non-poisonous) that evaporates, similar to mothballs (naphthalene or
paradichlorobenzene - poisonous). Camphorwood (camphor laurel, Cinnamomum
camphora), as requested by the OP, contains natural camphor oil, which
maintains it's aroma in the wood for thousands of years. In parts of Asia
camphorwood is still used for coffins.
