Anyone having any trouble getting into Gmail today? Checked out the
news and no reports but darn, tried a couple of different ways and
just wondering if anyone knows anything?

Haven't tried mine yet. Have you tried Yahoo mail? Less complicated than
Gmail, but with a nice search function, and also free and unlimited. I like
my Gmail account for storing documents (I send copies to that address as I
revise and add to reports) but it kind of creeps me out as it seems to be
always ... doing something.

Thanks Bob. Maybe its our local ISP but it just spins around saying
"redirecting" and I hoped it was not another "Denial of Service" thing
happening to Gmail.

I have several email accounts, as you must and use them for
different things. Gmail works well for sending out stuff to my
volunteer group, etc. and for anonymity. And I had Yahoo once but now
have others. Thanks.

I use gmail as I use several of google's services. I also use an add-on
to Firefox that allows you to stay connected to multiple gmail accounts,
and goes out every ten minutes or so, and checks for new mail. It also
allows you to web-page to the email account you want, and you are
already logged in.

Can't get more easy or convenient then that.

This is what I use, and it puts an icon on the bottom of the Firefox
window. Once installed, you right click on the icon and go tho
"preferences". At the top of that dialog box is an option to add or
remove accounts. Put in the email ID and password, and from that point
on it works like a champ.

Might have been something up. I did an online credit card payment
yesterday, and normally I get the confirmation to my Gmail within
minutes, but it took a whole day and I just got it in my Gmail this
AM.

Thanks again everyone. All is running smoothly. And it was my Gmail.
Some one else mentioned maybe a problem with Gmail too , and now all
is perfect. Really appreciate being able to ask such a wide audience
*here* when I could not find any other place.

Thanks, Bob. I already had Gmail Notifier installed and went through
the installation process for Gmail Manager, but I don't see it in my
tray and it's not listed in Programs. Did the two conflict somehow?

sf - if it installed okay, you should have an "M" in the bottom border
of firefox. If it installed okay, you should be able go to the menu at
the top Tools/add-ons. Select extensions. That should give you a list of
what's install. If the text of the name is in red, than it has a
problem. If it is in black text, it should be working.

I don't have gmail notifier installed, but maybe they use the some of
the same resources. You could always uninstall notifier and select
file/restart firefox and see if the M shows up. I have the current
version of Firefox (v3.5.2) and it has worked fine for me since version
of firefox was .2.0.

OK, I was looking for it in my systray where google talk and Notifier
are located. Deleted GMail Notifier and installed GMail Manager again
- now everything is peachy. My M is blue, though.

I decided to update FF and guess what happens with the new version?
It doesn't support GMail Manager! I declined the update.

In normal usage, gmail manager is red on your firefox border unless you
have mail, then it is blue :-)

That's weird. I have v3.5.2 (current), and Gmail manager works great.
Perhaps one of your other add-ons caused the "not supported" dialog box.
BUT several other add-ons are not up to supporting the current version
of Firefox yet. I myself have seven add-ons that are still not working
as the software writers for them have not updated their add-ons to work
with the latest version of Firefox yet. Probably a good thin you
declined the firefox upgrade for that very reason. Could be the add-ons
you have already installed (or some of them) might break. No rush to
upgrade anyway, I can't see a huge difference from the older versions. I
myself just updated cause I am a little bit a geek, and I can always fix
99% of what I break :-)


I hope you enjoy for gmail manager upgrade from Notifier. I know I
consider it a most excellent facilitator for reading in a timely manner
all the mail to my four different accounts on gmail. In fact, I leave my
outlook down most of the time, and just bring it up once or twice a day
since I have most mail going to the gmail accounts anyway. And as I
mentioned before, having those accounts are great from a permanent email
account perspective. If I change vendors, or am traveling, I still have
an uninterrupted source for mail, and I don't have to update everyone in
my address book whenever I make changes.

What browser are you using? All the google sites can get stuck in a
loop in you don't have your cookie acceptance policy set exactly
right. Have you changed any of those settings recently? The
"redirecting" messages are a common symptom.

You can just set up multiple IMAP accounts in your email client.
And use your email like it's supposed to be used rather than jumping
through hoops t5rying to manage multiple web pages and logins.

Have you tried it? Do you really know what you are talking about? Or are
you pulling a temporary Shelbrook?

There are no "hoops" to go through, took five minutes to set up, and I
don't even have to worry about backing up, up to 8gb each account. I do
nothing for hoop use on a daily.

The most I do is right click over the icon on the browser to see which
account has new mail, and select that row. Then it automatically (note
to sw: no hoops required) brings up a new tab with that account already
logged in.

I don't need to try it. I use a real email client that manages 8
email accounts (only one of which is gmail). And my client them all
at the same time, how ever often I need to. It keeps a copy of my
email locally as well as remotely.

It's the same thing as setting up an account in a real MUA. But I
don't have to log into Google, wait for the web pages to display,
worry about them being down, or worry about my privacy. Let alone
gawd forbid I should ever need any technical support. I could just
call Google, right?

same time - it's all on one screen. The same program is also my
browser as well - Seamonkey.

Knock yourself out with Google and gmail. And your hoops. I need
something a little more professional and versatile for my email,
thank you.

All I was suggesting was to continue using your damn gmail accounts,
but set them up in a real email client. You don't even have to log
into Gmail to read your email. It's no harder to set up your email
client than it is your cockamamie plug-in. Sheesh. Don't get all
defensive.

Okay, let me approach this a different way. I wasn't saying you were
wrong (re-read my post if necessary), I said you sound like you didn't
know what you were talking about (hence my Shelbrook reference). There
is no effort in managing my mail on 5 separate accounts. The ISP mail is
sent to my Outlook 2007 account locally. I use that mail only for
transfer from the gmail accounts, and for archiving. The gmail accounts
require no maintenance, and have 8Gbs each that I don't have to maintain
backups on, and they are easy enough to access no matter what ISP
changes I make, or if I am traveling (even internationally).

It works very well for me, and there is no web page jumbling (the hoops
I referenced from your original reply) to use.

I apologize if I offended you in my delivery of my response. That was
not my intent. I was just tweaking your nose, because if you assumed
that "hoops" were required to manage my set-up, you obviously did not
explorer its usage, or tried it.

Ignore him. He's acting stupid on purpose. Anybody who has a gmail
account knows that all you need to do is set it to forward email into
your regular inbox.

Why make the extra hop? That's just plain dumb AND stupid. But
this is sf, so it doesn't surprise me.

And you're the last person who should be lecturing computer science
majors on what they do and don't know about computers.

Bob - you can do whatever the hell you want with your email. But
you're forever locked into Google and there's no turning back now.
I buy my mail access from a couple real email providers. And most
importantly, I have complete control over it by using a real email
client rather than a wed page under constant redesign by somebody
else.

Okay Steve... I guess you are right. You caught me. I am a stupid
person. sf just facilitated outing me on that. I'm stoopid, and in need
of your direction.

I tried to be polite when I know I could have been a bit more PC. I
guess that went way over.

Bob how come you do not use Thunderbird for your email? I like it
much more than Outlook and because you use Firefox (and I use IE), I
would assume you made an active choice.

It helps sorting my emails into various categories- etc.

Just curious.

Hi PC (I like that shortening) -

I use Thunderbird for usenet, and it is integrated into my email. But I
use Outlook 2007 (not Outlook Express) as my home mail tool because the
address book is more robust, and keep my calender for all
appointments/activities in one place. And I also archive all mail into
outlook databases. I have mail that currently goes back to 1996.

Sort of like you using Agent for usenet (I peeked :-)).
