I am thinking it was probably you who posted a link to a photo of
a wooden mystery object a while ago--one that some guessed was
some kind of mold. I was flipping through "300 Years of Kitchen
Collectibles" by Linda Campbell Franklin today and saw that exact
thing as part of a wood and iron butter mold. It made a 1-lb
block of butter. There is no good information on this object,
which is apparently in the National Museum of American History at
the Smithsonian.

I'm not sure which one you're thinking of.
There was a device consisting of two wooden
pieces attached by a sort of wire toggle mechanism
which I believe Wayne identified as a device
for dewatering butter.

And then, there was the more recent item
which appeared to be some sort of wood and
metal device which may have been a mold.
That one sold for well over $200. At the
time, I said it appeared to be missing a piece,
though I don't know that for sure. I tried
googling my old posts, but I can't find it.
And even if I could, it's probably expired
from eBay.

I was speaking of the second one. Yes, indeed, it is missing
another part.
