Cathy,

Funny you should mention it. moments ago, I got a new bag of TJ's "Hawaiian"
potato chips.

They were out of my 85% cocoa dark chocolate, dammit. I got a small New York
style cheesecake as a temporary replacement. :9

I can take chocolate or leave it, and I will almost always choose
something savory/salty/creamy over something sweet, so I said chips/crisps.

Same here.

But I do enjoy the odd 'square' of dark chocolate (80%+)

I wouldn't want chocolate with fish either.

You eat potato chips (crisps) with fish? Hmmm. In-ter-est-ing... I'll
have to try that sometime.

In a pinch I've used crushed potato chips as a dredge before pan frying.
Worked a treat!

I chose "Why can't I have both?" but it really should
have been MCINL.

It depends on a lot of things . . .

Like when was the offer made? Morning, afternoon, night?
Right after a meal? Before a meal? Between meals.
If I had just eaten a meal, including dessert, I might not
want something sweet on top of the dessert. A meat without
dessert, then I'd probably want the chocolate.

Is the offer for something to eat right then or something
to take home or save for later? Probably chocolate in the second
case.

What kind of chocolate and what kind of chips? High quality or
low quality? Milk or dark? (Milk is preferable but wouldn't
necessarily turn down dark.) Chips? Well, there's a million
different chips with a million different flavors. What about
something to dip them in - salsa? sour cream dip? etc.
If someone offered plain corn chips I'd surely pass. Never
liked them. But good quality blue corn tortilla chips with
I good salsa would be hard to turn down. Potato chips - well,
I'd probably pass on Pringles but a good kettle-cooked chip
with a nice dip would be hard to resist.

And what am I in the mood for? If I have to eat it right
away it would depend on whether I'm craving savory or sweet
at the moment. If it's for later then I would probably go
with the chocolate.

I chose depends on my mood. I'm not a snacker, so if I have one it
would most likely be chips with a sandwich at work. However, the
other day I absolutely HAD to have dark chocolate and even made a
special trip to the nearest convenience store just to find some.

I must admit I am a little surprised at the results thus far. I thought
we had more chocaholics here than chipaholics. <g> I fall under the
latter category...

I never buy potato chips. I don't particularly like them, but if I am at
a party and there is a bowl of potato chips I am likely to have some....
and then pig out on them. I only eat chocolate once in a while, and only
buy dark chocolate. I am driving my wife crazy with the chocolate bar I
bought two weeks ago. I have broken off a square or two every few days
and there is still half a bar left. She doesn't understand how I can do
that.

Sorry, I try to control myself but I always get carried away.
Lots of times I don't even comment on the surveys because I
could go on and on and on and people would just tell me to
shut up! ;-)

Nah. Your posts about the surveys are always a good read, IMO.

FWIW, I find myself muttering about other internet surveys I've seen
that don't have the "MCINL" option ;-)

Take the one I saw on a local news website today:

http://www.news24.com/Content

Q. Would you consider obesity surgery?
- Yes, why not
- No, it's too extreme
- Only if I'm desperate

Heh. What about, "What do you consider 'obese'?". Or just plain "No".
Surely people might have other reasons than "It's too extreme" to say
no? And of course not to forget, "Depends who's paying for the
surgery."

So I didn't vote...

Cathy,

You're not a nice netizen to not vote!

Maybe you can't vote by obligation on your rfc surveys but if you visit a
vote elsewhere you're obliged to vote. You just can't turn your pretty head
and walk away!

I know what you mean. I really hate filling out "serious"
surveys - say a survey about how well your doctor's office
handles your case or something like that - or a survey from
a company about their service and or products.

My responses almost never fit any of the choices, at least without
clarification and I hate to give a misleading response. So I
refuse to do surveys and when I absolutely must I tend to give
more negative answers than I really feel because I would rather
err on the side of "complaining". ;-) (My life motto is "Complain,
complain, complain."

If you don't complain about things they never get fixed.
And if you do complain sometimes someone actually listens
to you and fixes things. (Used to be if you complained about
something in a restaurant - fill out one of those card on the
table - you would get a free meal. That was a sweet deal!)
Now this is not to say I complain about things that aren't
"wrong" but when something is wrong I make it a point to
mention it. I know, I know, people hate going out to dinner
with me. ;-) But it really gripes me when someone is really
unhappy with the food or the service or whatever and never
says or does anything about it because they don't want to "make
a fuss".

I try to be polite about it but I still point it out. I usually
don't rant and rave and make a scene (well, if it's really an
egregious error and they are not a all sorry about it I might
lose my cool. I know, you're saying I find it hard to believe
that Kate would ever lose her cool . . . . ;-)

Sorry, there I going running on again. I'll shut up now.

Kate

BMI Classification
< 18.5 underweight
18.5–24.9 normal weight
25.0–29.9 overweight
30.0–34.9 class I obesity
35.0–39.9 class II obesity
> 40.0 class III obesity

BMI is calculated by dividing the subject's mass by the square of his or
her height, typically expressed either in metric or US "Customary" units:

Metric: BMI = kilograms / meters2
US/Customary and imperial: BMI = lb * 703 / in2
where lb is the subject's weight in pounds and in is the subject's height
in inches.

The most commonly used definitions, established by the World Health
Organization (WHO) in 1997 and published in 2000, provide the values listed
in the table at right.[16]

Some modifications to the WHO definitions have been made by particular
bodies. The surgical literature breaks down "class III" obesity into
further categories.[17]

Any BMI > 40 is severe obesity
A BMI of 40.0–49.9 is morbid obesity
A BMI of >50 is super obese

OH my! I would opt for "Chippers" - chocolate covered "ripple" potato
chips made from North Dakota potatoes and very good dark or milk
chocolate. Think chocolate with fleur de sel. These are made by
"Widman's Candy" and by "Carol Widman's Candy" (family feud) They both
ship - but maybe not in the summer!
