I had a leaky spray (twice) on my Moen kitchen faucet, sent the
company an e-mail, and each time, they just sent me a new one, no
problem. They said they no longer want customers to take stuff back
to the store where they bought it.

I always had a high opinion of Moen and they are not "cheap". Even
reasonably good brands like Delta can corrode.

Absolutely. Delta and Price-Phister may be "affordable", but they are
not made cheaply. In my personal experience, they are made to last.
I've never had a problem with either unless it was time related.
Everything breaks down sooner or later. Many here are on the sooner
side of breaking down, so I'm sure they can relate.

Those are both CHEAP short term products.

In your opinion, what are good, long-lasting plumbing components?

Today's faucets are designed so that worn parts are easily replaced by the
homeowner, you can purchase the replacement kits from any big box hardware,
or the manufacturer will mail it to the original owner for life. Some
brands are better then others, they don't need new parts very often. I've
always been very satisfied with Kohler. American Standard faucets need
replacement parts like every few months. Price Phister parts are near
impossible to swap out without destroying the faucet body, they need special
tools in oddball sizes that are even difficult to buy from a tool
emporium... it's not easy to find extra long allen wrenches in the smaller
sizes, you'd think they'd include it in the kit... finally I located a 7/64
extra long Allen wrench at a NAPA auto parts store, a whole 20¢ for a wrench
that made me waste a few days locating... in fact they don't mention the
size wrench you need in the kit instructions and the screw is way down
inside the insert barrel so I couldn't even see it was an Allen screw, even
the customer service guy had a problem looking it up. From now on I'll
stick with Kohler, in seven years use my bathroom sink faucet hasn't
dripped, just recently swapped out the American Standard faucet for a Kohler
from my other bathroom sink.

Kohler makes a very nice looking faucet too.. it even contains a limiter for
adjusting water temperature so it's not so hot it scalds, and it's super hot
water that destroys faucet inserts.

Where was it leaking and how long did it take to start leaking?

Another good brand is Wolverine.

Kholer is good, Chicago does not have good quality control. Again -
in *my* experience.
