Limburger substitute?
Since Kraft quit producing their Mohawk Valley limburger I've not been able
to find any other limburger in the markets here. Can anyone suggest some other more available strong cheese anything like limburger? I could experiment with purchasing unfamiliar types but uncommon cheeses like those are very expensive for buying at random. TIA. Brick, true Muenster, and South African gruyere are also made from the same bacteria (which is the same bacteria that causes foot and underarm odor, BTW - Bacterium Linens). I miss Mohawk and wish somebody would come out with something similar. I tr6ied mixing regular limburger with cream cheese and was pretty disappointed. -sw |

Very very bland. Evidently it was not 'true' Muenster. How can you tell? This was store brand - the only Muenster I could find. Unfortunately it's not available in Texas, just via mail order. My Ohio in-laws were able to purchase it in a local Kroger there. This is the true Munster, always round, either about 4" or 8", about 1.5 inches deep. Never a square, that is a North American abortion that should not share the name.
