... Honestly, I'm not trying to convert rec.food members to vegetarians, but I thought this may be interesting (especially the difference between eating "white meat" and "red meat." According to a new research report, there are two types of meat consumption that are getting us into health-related trouble: red meat and processed meat. (snippage) "Processed meats"... that study you quote doesn't differentiate between cured and processed. But studies and research reports change daily. There's always a new "study". Who ever heard of (or cared about) cholesterol 50 years ago? Trans fats? That term sprung up fairly recently, now it's the big buzzword. Same thing with high fiber. Fiber this, fiber that. Eating too much high fiber damn near killed me. I enjoy red meat. I *tolerate* chicken. I love fish. (Am I worried about fish? No.) Do I eat red meat every day? No. But I could if I wanted to. If I could eat a 4 oz. filet minon every day I most certainly would (not necessarily at one sitting). I'd also eat vegetables and a moderate amount of carbs such as potatoes, bread or pasta to go along with it. As always, moderation is the key. Jill |
