Hi all
I just wanted to keep people updated with what's going on re Blinky's memorial service. Saturday, Feb 28th 2-5pm The Windsor Club 123 Windsor Road Glendale, Ca A couple of you have expressed wishes to attend. Hopefully that gives people enough time to plan. Also, it appears that there will *not* be a public service in Michigan, as I previously believed. The family has asked that it be kept a small private graveside service. -- Aingon Atelia aka Minkie Zeeber Poke out my left I to reply |

I don't know, but I automatically killfile anybody who mentions Lucas, and either originate with Google Groups, or anything .au. Which means you're next. That, and killfiling anything with Lucas in the headers is the only way to have peace in this group. BTW, that includes Lucas himself. He's the center of this little tempest in a teapot. The rest of us could give a rat's ass about some personal problems someone in Australia have. Do us all a favor and take it away from here. |

The business about transfusion transmitted infections, both viral and bacterial, has been known about a long time; and those risks still exist today. How high the risk is depends on how the banking is done, what country you are in, and other factors such as which products are being transfused, but it is never zero. The business about someone having AIDS and trying to answer the question "Well then, how did he get it?" is not going to have an absolute answer, just a guess. If your cousin had AIDS and had also had a blood transfusion, and was not known to have had any other exposure of his blood or mucus membranes to someone else's bodily fluids, you can't necessarily know that he got the virus infection from the transfusion. The answer to the above question would have to be "We don't really know, it is possible that he got it from the transfusion, but that is very unlikely." 'Very' in this context would depend on what year and what country we are talking about. -- Mike Easter |

Sexual orientation was invoked in the very first line quoted above and that was the line that Walt was responding to, not the second line about AIDS. I'd say that the point is that it's not necessary to try to blame the AIDS patients for their own conditions or deaths. AIDS is a disease, not biblical retribution, and anyone who made the kind of comments that Lisa Ann's talking about should probably not be in positions that require dealing with the public, like, say, being a doctor. I have a friend whose brother died of AIDS. A guy once asked her, "well, was he ***?" and when she said yes, he said (to her face, mind you) that it was John's own fault, then. That's nothing but assholery. Mary |

Lisa Ann said 'the doctors telling you that your son was responsible for what killed him'. I agree with that; and I also argue that it isn't necessary to blame a transfusion for causing AIDS in order to avoid what Lisa Ann said (someone said?) about Tommy being responsible for his disease. The business about managing the risks of sexual behaviors of various age groups who are retarded and not retarded is very complicated and difficult. Recognizing that difficulty isn't made easier by those who can't seem to believe that a retarded person is likely to be sexually active. > AIDS is a disease, > not biblical retribution, and anyone who made the kind of comments > that Lisa Ann's talking about should probably not be in positions that > require dealing with the public, like, say, being a doctor. I interpreted the 'responsible' remark as being an _interpretation_ -- that those who were close to Tommy interpreted the doctor's opinion that maybe Tommy got AIDS sexually instead of from the transfusion as being the same as those who said that *implying* that Tommy was responsible for his own disease. It seems that when people say something that others don't like, they also don't like the way you said it. -- Mike Easter |
