Since he posts through AOL, he's already using one of the AOL proxies. The IP address on his posts is the same IP address of hundreds... thousands... of other AOL users. (These proxies are what AOL uses to spy on their users surfing habits so efficiently). So Google would be banning not just Sheldon. -sw |

That's a good explanation. Most companies and universities use proxies to funnel all the traffioc to/from the Internet. In that case, all users data appears to be coming from the same IP address. I kinda refer to proxies as "brokers". Open proxies: Ususually misconfigured servers or even home machines that allow hackers to use your IP address as if it were their own. Anonymous proxies: servers purposely configured to allow public, anonymous web surfing and possibly has other ports open for other uses. Generally they are very slow and a PITA. -sw |

Or, at least, I *assumed* everyone else was referring to anonymous proxies. Suggestions that Sheldon use a transparent proxy would make even less sense than a suggestion that he use an anon. proxy. Proxies are completely irrelevant to Sheldon's predicament. |

I can't imagine why anyone cares who uses AOL or not.... other than for flogging purposes. I think if you can wade your way through all that peripheral stuff, you're a whole lot better able to focus than I am and you're a lot more tolerant of visual clutter! I've tried to help my neighbor with AOL email in the past and I've been floored by how much *crap* they enclose the actual text window in (with no option to close the surrounding frames). The working window is maybe 6 inches across, at best. It drives me nuts! I always ask her why she insists on using AOL, but it's one of those "I know this and I don't know that" kind of things. I find nothing foolproof about AOL, but you go with what you know. If it was my ISP, I'd be annoyed to the point that I wouldn't use it... but I don't use AOL. Moot point. Additionally, I've never heard anyone say they were switching *to* AOL.... but I can certainly understand it when people say they are switching "from" AOL. My only advocation about "switching" to AOL isn't about switching ISPs, it's about switching to an AOL style email delivery system. UGH. :/ -- I never worry about diets. Anyone who used it for more than a year must have been pretty silly. I used it back then until I could figure out what the hell was going on and then got a real ISP and reformatted the machine to get all the crap off. Everything about AOL sucked. Lou |

He posts through verizon, at least until that account gets yanked. Then he's going to need a new way to connect to the Internet. (Based upon the assumption that since getting TOSED by GG is damned near impossible, getting TOSED by Verizon will be a lot easier for whichever netcop is after him. |

I just know you failed your GED. > So what *are* your other options for broadband out there in th the sticks, > Sheldon? Oh, there's Road Runner, Cable, more than a few satellite dish outfits, and a host of other phone companys offering DSL. Located in the main corridor between NYC and the NYS Capitol I wouldn't quite refer to the Hudson Valley as the sticks... there are more broad band options available here than in the entire state of Texass, and with each adjacent state thrown in, even all of Mejico. Most TexMexans access the net with paper cups and strring. LOL Google lost nothing, I didn't buy any service from them. But I pay big bucks to my ISPs. Anyone who actually knows how to read headers would know that I changed ISPs often over the years and that I used Google for a rather short time. Between cable for my TVs (usta access the net with cable just two years ago, still can) and Verizon for land lines/Blackberry/DSL I spend close to $500/mo... for six grand a year they'll suck my peepee, they ain't cancelling my account for a few blue woids on some furiner's say-so. There are few at rfc with a lower IQ than the sqwartz, and none with less common sense... even with all his phony geeky mouthing off he needed a slew of comparative newbies to clue him in before he caught on... and while he was running off at the mouth with his thumb up his dwarf butt claiming I wouldn't know how to access usenet there I was all along, I missed maybe an hour. What the sqwartz actually knows about computers would fit on the head of a pin... and what he knows about cooking, only what he remembers to regurgitate from moi. Later for you, dwarf. It's easy enough for you to go back 4+ weeks and look up the IP addresses of his posts. It's a well-known fact for the last 15 years that he used AOL.
