Default Christy Update: FRIDAY, DECEMBER 19, 2008 04:15 PM, CST

http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/kilikini

*******************************
Her physical condition is beginning to deteriorate. Allan says that she
is receiving 3L of fluid daily and her output is about 1L. This is
causing water retention. Allan says that her hands are nearly twice
their normal size. Her kidneys are failing. Allan asked the doctors,
hypothetically, if a liver was available for transplant, would she make
it. The doctors told him flat out she would not survive the surgery. The
doctors will prescribe no pain medication for her because it will
aggravate her condition. Allan said that the doctors met with him and
Christy's family. All questions were answered at that time for Christy's
mother and sister. Allan said that Christy's family has been wonderful
through all of this. Very supportive and caring and that he has been
grateful they have been there. I am a little unclear on this part but
I'll do the best I can. During the family/doctor conference the question
of Christy's living will came up. There were questions from Christy's
family whether or not to remove the ventilator. When the tube is removed
Allan has been told by the medical professionals that Christy will most
probably go into respiratory failure. At that point her time with us
will be short. Allan had some alone time with Christy. He made certain
Christy understood what he was telling her. He explained to her that
death was almost certain when the tube was removed. After it is taken
out she will have a very short time. He made it clear to Christy that he
understood her feelings and that according to her living will she would
want the tube to be removed. He wanted to know if that is what she
wanted. He told her to take plenty of time to think about it. She
indicated to him she was not ready. Allan's voice was audibly relieved
when he was relating this to me. Allan says he's hoping for a miracle.
At this point the medical professionals have done just about all they
can do for Christy. With a heavy heart I have to say that we need to
prepare ourselves for the worst and hope/pray for the miracle.

<Edit>

There was initial confusion concerning her signing a living will and/or
a DNR under duress. I explained to her family that both had been done at
an attorneys office while she was still fully functional.

The attorney was very sympathetic and she waived her fee, telling us to
go get some ice cream and celebrate.

What Christy signed that morning in ICU was a release form for the
ventilator.

I have just read the latest journal entry. I is a very unfortunate
situation for Christine, Alan as well as the family.

I would urge the family to start discussing palliative care. The
people within this field can help the family understand the options as well
as having an understanding ear.

With great sorrow,

Dimitri

Default Christy Update: FRIDAY, DECEMBER 19, 2008 04:15 PM, CST

When it is time there will be no doubt in either/or Allan or Christy's mind.

When a loved one is battling for his or her life and you've had the
conversations and signed the papers and you are still worried about
whether or not it's time to pull the plug, *it's not time*.

She's still fighting.

My prayers for her are conditional.

If she can still recover, let her take all the strength that all of us
who have know and cared about her can send.

And if she can't, let her pass quickly, peacefully and without fear in
the company of those who knew and loved her best.

Better yet, ask her to pray for us when her suffering is over.

I read the report today on CaringBridge, and it truly made me cry. Kili is
such a special person, and this is such a terrible ordeal. It seems
especially unfair that she cannot have anything for pain when it seems that
there is very little that can be done for her at this time.

I agree about pain medication. I guess if she can take the pain and
medication can aggravate her situation, it's the best decision for
her.

You unimaginable monster. What kind of a person are you? This woman is
terminally ill. You will not even allow her to suffer with dignity. It is
unfathomable that you post not only personal details of her suffering, but
her medical information as well. To add insult to injury, you post this
information on a globally used, public forum. I am certain you are doing
this without the patient's consent. Who do you think you are that you can
just copy and paste a dying person's journal entries to publish as you see
fit? You are a pitiable excuse of a human being.

My apologies to the rest of this forum. My intent is not one of
disruption. This must be a very trying time for those of you that love and
care for Christy. Her journal on the caringbridge website is heart
wrenching. This public airing of her misery by this Peter Lucas person is
an unconscionable disregard for the dignity of this woman. It is beyond
contempt.

I don't know Peter Lucas, but I think you have misconstrued these messages.
Kili started her own CaringBridge site when she knew how ill she was. If I
have read correctly, her husband asked to have these messages updated on
CaringBridge and also in some of the newsgroups that Kili used. She has
many Internet friends here, and they requested information. It is always a
sensitive issue when deciding how much medical information to release, but I
don't think these messages violate trust under these circumstances. The
message posted her is a verbatim report from CaringBridge.

Oh, man. I missed Carla's original post. I know Christy well (I set
the CaringBridge site up for her initially), and I'm positive that she
would much rather have people know what's going on with her than to
wonder. Some of the people in the group have posted that, for reasons
unknown, they are unable to access the CaringBridge site. Peter is a
good friend of Christy and Allan, and is doing his part to help get
the word out by posting the updates here.

Thjat's it's complete posting history.

"Carla Bains" was 'born' 15 hours ago.

*Any* lurker would know the situation with Christy.

For it to come in and attack straight off *first* post, should tell
everyone what it is.

It's a stalker/troll.

I figured that one out simply by the message content.
The writing style is the same as the rest of the crap he posts.

Too full of bile and venom.

You throw the words "stalker" and "troll" out frequently towards any poster
that disagrees you or otherwise meets with your disapproval. In my real
life experiences, this type of behavior would indicate you may have
something to conceal. Yes, I did read some of your posts. I thought that I
may have misjudged you. I am sad to say my initial assessment is correct.
At least I do not have to issue you a public apology.

On the contrary. I was born in the 1950s. I created an online persona just
yesterday after finding out about Christy's unfortunate illness. Her story
touched me and I wanted to see what this group was about. I ceased
utilizing Usenet 15 years ago. Usenet ceased to be a viable source of
accurate and useful information due to the influx of people such as
yourself.

I am not a lurker. I learned of Christy's set of circumstances just
yesterday.

You know very little of life if you equate my opinion as an attack. I
gather, from reading your past posts, you like telling others who they
should and should not read by the numerous times you've suggested
killfiling other posters you have taken a dislike to.

You do have some abilities. You have managed to gather a pack of minions
that will leap to your defense at a stroke of the keyboard. You are quite
the sycophant Peter Lucas.

You have managed to desecrate the dignity of a dying woman and have put
together a following cheering you on. You must be very proud of yourself
Peter Lucas. Very proud indeed.

It would appear there are a few people in this group that have an interest
in cooking. This will be my last post regarding your updates. This will
not be my last post in this newsgroup. I may find that after all these
years a return to Usenet may be interesting.

This is by far the funniest post I've read tonight. Confess Peter. Go
ahead. You will feel much better if you admit that it was you in the chat
room posing as yourself. Of course it was. You've been caught in this
game before. You set this up yourself so you could run right back into the
newsgroup and start a new thread about YOU. The poor, victimized little man
from Oz. If the people in this group fall for your shit then they deserve
you.
