That last part is unlikely. Trash removal in the County is handled by
independent companies. Some municipalities have designated one company
to service the city, others (like mine) leave it open for anyone to
contract with whichever company they want. Recently, the County has
designated zones for unincorporated areas and selected single companies
for those areas based on a bidding system.

I asked my trash guys if they could throw the emptied trash can as far down
the driveway as they could! They loved the idea and take turns. Usually
saving me an average of 20' feet walk uphill to retrieve it.

Around here we do not use trash cans, we just put bagged garbage out by
the road on collection day. We actually have at least three different
companies servicing this area to choose from, one of which is WM. If WM
was the mob, I suspect the other companies would no longer be operating
here.

That's SO GROSS!!! Maybe differing circumstances?

Around here the crows know the trash days and fly in and out of neighborhoods
accordingly. Folks that don't use trash cans get their trashbags pecked
through, trashing up the streets!

And the same neighbors never learn! The SLOBS!!!

We don't seem to have that problem here. I put the bags out ~8am usually
picked up by noon and never seem to have a problem with anything
attacking them.

We have a green garbage cart, with a hinged lid, that is provided by the
city. We have a blue cart for recyclables. They recycle everything
except lawn, bathroom and food waste. We have very little trash,
anymore, almost everything goes into the recycle bin.

We don't have that here.

In the best model areas, they have single garbage bins for all garbage,
and they have full recycling of everything at the far end of the
process. It has been found that it is more efficient to take all the
waste in via a single stream (no extra bins, no separate or divided
garbage trucks) grind up everything and then sort out the components for
recycling via automation. The can separate ferrous and non ferrous
metals, plastics down to individual types, organic wastes, etc. all via
automation, recycling the recyclables, composting the compostables, and
burning the remainder to generate electricity.

I don't have that problem, even though I'm also with WM. I think I
would prefer that, they leave them pretty much where I put them at the
end of the driveway. Too often the cans or the lids end up in the
street on windy days. The lid to one got run over last week, which
didn't overly please me.

That's a pet peeve of mine. The people who moved in across
the street thought nothing of just leaving their garbage cans
out. Walk right by them. Hello, notice everyone else takes
their eyesores in when they get home?

They've caught on, I guess, as it's rarely an issue any more.

People like that sound like they have a renter mentality.

Indeed, they were from the city. Took them a while but they
also noticed those free papers weren't going to be picked up
by some random stranger, either.

Mind you, freebie papers that you don't want to read can be a nuisance.
I was unable to stop them being "delivered" despite several phone calls
until I reported them for littering. The County said it was not really
littering but the word got to the companies and they stopped.

It's not just renters. Our new neighbours don't pick them up either. We
share a road allowance and the free papers get tossed on the road
allowonce/driveway. I pick mine up. I don't want to pick theirs up in
case they think I am stealing their free papers, but I wish they would.
It's bad enough that they sit there for days and get all soggy, but if
it snows you don't see them. I ran over one last winter with the snow
blower and it took me an hour to get rid of the paper jamming my blades.

It's not always about being lazy or oblivious. One of my neighbors
across the street leaves his dumpster in the driveway for days at a
time. Although he's only in his 40s he's got heart disease of some sort
to where he's not supposed to lift or pull anything. His daughter is a
type 1 diabetic, diagnosed at the age of 13 months. The wife works
insane hours to keep the household afloat. It bugs me to see the thing
sitting out there like that so when I'm taking my own dumpster back up
to the house I'll usually walk over there and drag his back up the
driveway and park it next to their garage. Takes all of 60 seconds.
