I'd have the old retro O'Keefe and Merritt cook top refurbished.
There are companies that will make it like new for not much money,
even change the color if desired. On the east coast O'Keefe and
Merritt is Tappen. That 50 year old cook top could be worth quite a
bit of money, I wouldn't be too quick to toss it.

Really? Now THAT'S interesting!! I will look into it. I love that
cooktop. One of the burner grates is broken. The burner pans are hideous,
I long ago gave up trying to get rid of the burned in crud, it's just not
possible. There are some scratches in the porcelain of the cooktop. But I
have a great fondness for O'Keefe and Mr. M going back to my great
grandmother's stove. My ratty little cooktop is one of the reasons I
bought this house.
