Bitter melon at the market. No idea what to do with it. The girl at
the stall said her mother boiled it with chicken. So, some frozen chicken legs into the crock with a sliced bitter melon. Some water, a splash of lemon juice, onion, garlic, one super hot pepper. Probably a pear. Held off on the mint and ginger that seemed might to be appropriate After an hour or so on high, yow! way too much flavor. Added a sliced long green eggplant thing, a big handfull of last week's frozen "chineese spinach", half a pot of left-over rice. Still a little pointy, needs some fine-tuning in the middle flavours, but just now finished off the pot for breakfast. I think I'll keep her. And, while I was making pie, that NPR Magnificent Kitchen woman was on the radio talking about green tomato/apple pie. So, of course I did it. Dad liked it, twice, but he's not a picky eater. I haven't tasted it yet, but frost is coming, gotta do something with the late greens bulka |
