To sum the event up in one word...chaos.

We knew "about" where the hall for the party was, but the streets were
blocked off due to a Music and Motorcycle festival being held downtown, so
we couldn't find it. My husband forgot his cell phone, so we had to drive
back home to call Christal, the hostess, to find out how to get to the hall.
She told us it was a PINK building. Her boyfriend, Roger, got on the phone
and said he'd be standing in the alley waiting for us to show us how to get
there. We got back in the car, drove across town, saw Roger waving and he
pointed to the building.

PINK? It was an old, river rock structure, with white plaster in between
the rocks. I don't know where Christal got "pink" from.

We were told there was going to be a full kitchen in the hall where we could
warm up the meat and the beans and there wasn't. We had to make another
trip back home and attempt to quickly heat the food up in our kitchen.

All-in-all, I'd say only about 10 kids showed up, just a couple of guests
ate. The boys flirted with the girls, the girls flirted with the boys
(these are 18 year olds, by the way), boys and girls pounded gibberish notes
on the piano while rap music blared from the stereo.

It was a waste of money, time and engergy, in my opinion. (And the birthday
girl never said, "Thank you" to us, which, I guess is typical.)

On a good note, the hosts of the party will have food in their 'fridge for a
while. Their 'fridge is ALWAYS empty (and when I say empty, I mean not even
a condiment), so the Amanda and Brittney (the daughters) ride their bikes to
7-11 for dinner every night.

The parents are already talking about a graduation party for their daughter,
now. I don't get it. There are going to be LOTS of graduation parties
going on. Do they really feel the need to host one themselves? Whatever,
we're not going to get involved. This was a fiasco. I know my husband
agrees with me. :~)

No, it's not.

I substitute teach in our local school district. I am among the few who
will take on the high school level Learning Disabled and Behaviorally
Disordered classes. When I accept one of these assignments I stop off
at QuikTrip on my way in and pick a couple reels of BubbleTape (chewing
gum), which I share with my students.

These kids are considered the worst of the worst and many of them don't
know me from Adam and yet I have never failed to receive a "Thank You"
and a smile for something as inconsequential as a strip of bubble gum.

The birthday girl's behavior is inexcusable and unforgivable and I'd ask
if she'd been raised by wolves except that wolves display complicated
social behavior and highly regulated manners and the comparison would be
insulting to them.

If she were an animal, she'd be a zoo-raised chimp flinging poo at visitors.

Maybe she was thinking of the pink birthday cake you didn't bring.

Somehow this is not at all surprising. It's a sad commentary on how *some*
people are today.

I feel for you, and I pray you *never* get involved in anything like this
again!!!

If we do it won't be for them! We'll plan a menu, print out a guestimate
and get the money for the food up front, the rest on delivery. And, I'd
like at least a 2 week advance notice!!!

This whole thing caused TFM® and me to argue for almost 3 days. It's not
worth it. No way, no how.

That's funny, because I never realized it before, but those come across as
pink to me, too.

Really? I was looking at it (when we got there) and thought, grey and brown
streaked stones plastered in white. How does she get pink out of this?

I've been looking for a picture of the hall online to show you, but there
doesn't seem to be one, which is surprising because it's on the National
Historic Register.

I just hope we get our serving utensils back. That was the last thing I
said to them before we left. Toss the containers, but I need my utensils
back.

If we don't get them back it's a small price to pay to never deal with them
again in this venue.

Are you guys trying to start a catering biz? Cool. :-)
Might not be a bad idea to investigate disposable utensils, and charge
for them.

No, we're not going to start a catering business, but if someone wants to
pass us a few extra dollars to cook some BBQ for a party, we'll do it.

My friend, Tina, is starting her own catering business, though. She said
once it starts to take off, she'll need help with recipes. I think I've got
a million of those. :~)

Sorry to hear that kili, but I feared as much from what you've told us
about these people before. Unfortunately, some folks just don't
appreciate good friends like you two.

I had 1kg of Bruny Island Cheese I brought back with us. Our BIL paid a
suprise visit from Sydney and stayed for a overnighter. I rang around on
the Friday morning, and by 4pm had 12 very noisy people all sitting
around talking, singing, drinking and eating. The BIL was blown
away...... he thought we did it on a regular basis and couldn't believe
that we'd jusy 'thrown' it all together at a moments notice, just or him
:-)

First people arrived at 3pm....... the last left at 1am.

*And* they all loved the cheeses........ so much so that I have to order
double next time.

We had a Saint, a 1792, a Lewis (got a whole one left for myself!!), a
Barney, a C2, a Pressings (a Tom that has been pressed in pinot noir
skins after initial crushing), and an Otto.
