I got a new toy... a non-contact thermometer.
I also have a cheap oven thermostat and I would like to check and calibrate it, and my oven. I have a friend in the restaurant trade and he would like his big Blodgett Convection ovens checked too. I wonder if I put a chunk of angle iron, say 3x3x4, in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, and then took its reflected temp, if that would be a valid check on our ovens thermostats? Any ideas. . . . . ? thanks -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com |

There is nothing magically accurate about non contact thermometers just because they have a digital readout. One of the main sources of error in non contact measurement is the emissivity of the object you are measuring. A good non contact thermometer will have an emissivity adjustment to compensate for that effect. |
