Don't you just hate when you can't make up your mind what to cook for
supper? When all the old standbys just don't appeal?

That was my dillimma <sp??> tonight...Finally decided on summer sausage
cooked in the oven with saur kraut, apples and onion. So I burried the
summer sausage in kraut threw in a sliced granny smith, and a sliced up
white onion...loads of carraway seeds. Preheat oven to 350F

I'm not sure how this will turn out. I figure 1.5 to 2 hours and it'll be
ready.

I am fixing Chicken breasts with broccoli and cheese, that is as far
as I have gotten with it so far.

This is what we are having for supper as well. I will probably do mine on
the stovetop though. Kids are having hot dogs and french fries. They aren't
kraut fans.

We're having leftovers. We forgot to take something out of the freezer
for dinner last night, so at the last minute we got out some frozen hot
Italian sausage. I baked that and then tossed into some spaghetti
sauce and cooked up some farfelle. There was enough left over for
tonight, so it is heating up in the oven and we will have that with a
salad, rolls and a glass of wine.

What's for Supper??!!?

Well it was good but next time I'll add a pinch of hot pepper just to add
some zing to the kraut. I'd forgotten how bland it gets when you cook it.

Heh, you've described a dilemma I suffer rather often, and yes, I hate
it. There're are many times when I cannot decide what I want to eat.
Therefore, I tend not to eat for that meal. I call this my "special
diet," and it's worked to some degree some of the time <vbg>.

We're having the coleslaw which is much better after sitting, but still
needs a wee bit of sugar I think. And a gluten free tuna casserole. I
think this is my best one yet. I finally got the dairy free "cream" of
mushroom soup right. Yum!

called dinner or supper? Perhaps that's a geographric and/or familial
thing? To me, the evening meal has always been called "dinner."

True or not, I don't know. But we were told as kids, that city folks call
it dinner and country folk call it supper. And/or peasants call it supper.

My parents always say supper. They're from the midwest. I never liked the
sound of the word supper. It just reminds me of farms or something. I call
it dinner. We also have lunch at our house. I've heard of some people from
the midwest calling their lunch dinner and their dinner supper. Hmmm...

I don't cook on Thursdays. I just have to pick from the menu. Homemade
from scratch Mexican food. Tonight I picked the large combo, taco, tostada,
enchilada with beans and rice. We had Abbey dip to start.

Tonight was yellow split pea soup. Very nice.

Last night was smoked sausage, rendered of some fat in a skillet, then I
added
parboiled potato cubes, chopped onion and red bell peppers and tossed
until potato
and onion were browned. It was delicious.

We just finished eating at 2145 hours. Hubby and I went to the
commissary about 1730 hours and spent $400 on groceries. Had to haul it
home and we worked together to get it all put away. Then grilled chicken
breasts just with lemon pepper seasoning (a freebie Penzey's sent me to
try!), rice and kimchi (a new extra spice jar fresh from the commissary.
I've been craving some), a big salad (baby greens, cherry tomatoes,
cuke, green onion, olive oil, salt, pepper and vinegar dressing) and
then sliced fresh strawberries in from Florida. I didn't know
strawberries from FL were already arriving at the markets because I'm so
cold-how can they be growing down there?!?!
Some fresh lemon juice I needed to use up mixed with leftover diet tonic
water for a beverage... not bad. Not great, but not bad either.

I'm feeling pretty smug with productiveness tonight :)

That's how I felt bringing home bags and bags of fresh veggies from the
commissary tonight. I want them all!
I splurged on blackberries and strawberries (first of the FL season for
me). I'd have eaten the blackberries for dessert tonight except the
strawberries beckoned first. Also picked up pears, grapes, melon,
apples, oranges, bananas, lemons, limes,....hmmm.. what else??

Unless you're old Southern and dinner was at noon and supper was later.
Or eating a special meal earlier in the day (such as on a holiday) and
it certainly qualifies as dinner, with supper or "tea" later.

Do they do any hothouse berries there? I'm used to the Driscoll's
packages but these were another grower I wasn't familiar with?

Sugar will do in a pinch but it's a great way to sleep off part
of the suffering!

When I come home from shopping like that I love to get out the big platters
and spread out my 'catch' to view. Whatta sight. I can never figure out
which/what to eat first either.

Sorry you have a 'miserable cold.'

DH is finally up and around, but he opened up a foam cup of noodles and
added some wakame (seaweed.) I opened up a package of hot-spicy lentils
with left-over rice. We watched a stupid movie and fell asleep while it was
on, then jumped in bed very very early. Those carbs must've got to us. Or
the snowy, snowy night.

I actually feel worse today, but I did come to work since I don't work too
closely to others. I think I will repeat the hot toddy tonight until I
don't care. :-) I have some desert honey which is particularly nice.
