I noticed the site Sheldon referenced doesn't have any qiviut
available. I wonder how vicuna and qiviut compare to each other, but
that's mostly a rhetorical thought since I'll never see or fondle
either. Oh well. At qiviut.com, 2 oz. skein goes for $80.00! Go
figure.

Alas, I've never had the opportunity to stroke those particular fibers
<g>. One trick I've learned as a way to get some nice yarn is to buy
sweaters from thrift shops, then 'deconstruct' them. The prices for
silk, cashmere, cotton, and other natural fibers can be very reasonable
this way. Sure beats the price of qiviut.

You can also felt those sweaters and turn them into just about anything.
(I do both)

Quivet is a new one on me. Had to look it up.... now I know the
common name is Arctic musk ox. I'd be willing to bet vicuna is
softer.

Geez...

Vicunas were hunted nearly to extinction but conservation methods have
rescued this shy, graceful animal.
<

Yeah, right!!! Conservation methods in South America?!! They're deforesting
the things into extinction. What a great conservation effort to just shear
them and then send them back up to 12,000 - 18,000 feet and tell us it's
not intrusive and cruel.

Wool over eyes, pull!

I bet there isn't much meat on their bones and I don't do bones
unless they are spare ribs or short ribs.
