Default My Pork Butts for Ronald McDonald House

I put 14# of butt roast (2 of them) into an electric roaster at 6:00
p.m. last night. About a half hour later, the roaster was warm to the
touch. At 9:00 it was cold and not heating! Damn! I moved the
roaster pan, covered with heavy foil, to the oven set to 245 deg where
it's been all night. I'm thinking that around noon I'll have a look-see.

I rubbed it with a whole bunch of stuff -- I emptied small Penzeys
"pots" of Bavarian and Ozark seasonings along with some garlic and salt
and rubbed it on before putting the roasts into the pan.

If this proves edible, pulled pork sandwiches will be featured at the
June 24 dinner at the local Ronald McDonald House through the generosity
of some rfc folks who have offered to fund it. How good is THAT! I
reported on my first experience at the House on January 31, I think. It
was so much fun I wanted to do it again. Friends and family will serve.

Sounds good, but the idea of all of the ingredients in the Ozark blend
being "Ozark" is funny. You do realize that the Ozarks is Beverly
Hillbillies' country, right? My family is from the Ozarks

Have you planned on any sauce or slaw to serve on the side with the pork?
If so, what kind? Inquiring minds, you know. :~)

I needed to empty those two jars. <g> Figure if it's a dog, I won't do
it on the next round and will just blend this into the mix. None the
wiser.

Yahsure. Youbetcha. I'm taking some of today's audition, too. (It's
done, btw, and definitely edible. Don't ask me how I know this.)

Nancy, I'm not replying to you, rather to the idiot I just blocked again.
Anyway, "jill math" was because I read 14# (two of them) as 28 lbs.

And she said "pulled pork sandwiches will be featured at the June 24
dinner"... I didn't read that as she's making the *entire* dinner but I
don't recall the details from the original post. I think it's a great thing
she's doing. I've donated to the Ronald McDonald House many times, but it
was monetary (they were building a second one here and needed funds for
building and outfitting it).

I thought that's what it was, too. Regardless, I wasn't really paying
attention to the amount.

Ditto. It's easy to write a check (assuming you have the funds, of
course), but actually making the effort, doing it, my hat is off to
Barb. Clapclapclap. Heh.

It's one of the good charities, and with a thoughtful purpose.

It would just be *wrong* to not have some brownies, don't you think?
LOL! Fresh fruit sounds pretty good to me, too. Cherries ought to be
around.

Wouldn't it be *wrong* not to have thin greasy
burgers on airbread buns, french fries, and
those milkshakes that stay thick even if allowed
to come up to room temperature? :-)

Nope. They can get those on their own -- I'm pretty sure Mickey D's got
a spot not too far from the House. Pfftthhggbbttt!

To my everlasting regret she is too young to be allowed in the house as
a visitor. Minimum age is something like 11 or 14. :-0(

Thanks,. I'm feeling much more confident now. The sides should be
pretty easy -- I'm not above bagged cabbage for slaw.

Are there no families with small children staying at RMH? Where do they
eat?

There are. They eat with their parents. Some folks eat in the dining
area, some carry out to their rooms. It's their rule and I will honor
it.
