The major secret for cats seems to be dropping the pill as far back into the throat as possible! -- Peace, Om Remove _ to validate e-mails. With a pill crusher and a spoonful of fish type Fancy Feast it IS easy... no fuss, no muss... no stress/ anxiety, not for you and especially not for the cat. Everyone with a cat or a dog needs to own a pill crusher. "Popping" a pill down an animals throat is very dangerous, it can lodge in their windpipe, and if you clamp the animals jaws shut they can easily choke to death (never clamp an animal's jaws shut). If a pet won't swallow a pill when it's placed in the front of their mouth then you need to crush the pill and feed it with food... or ask the Vet for a liquid version if available. Most pills are safe to crush, ask the Vet. Quality pill crushers are available at any pharmacy, about $6. Sheldon |

But Persia underwent a $900 bladder stone surgery and has been on prescription food since 2004. I have a pill crusher but it's much easier to pop it to the back of her throat, blow on her nose and she swallows the pill. They were small pills, though. Doesn't take but a second once you can hold her in your lap. Otherthwise I'd have used the pill crusher but she's very good at detecting crushed pills in her food, at which point she simply refuses to eat it. And she still hates TUNA... even the Fancy Feast stuff. Jill |

I was intrigued by this thread as I can't say I've noticed Ortiz brand tuna available here in Oz -- at least not here in the deep north of the deep south. So I googled "Ortiz tuna site:.au" and got a bunch of hits. Three of the first five were research papers on the East Coast (Oz) tuna fishery by one "E. Ortiz" as senior author. Another case of nominative determinism; or does "E. Ortiz" also own a fish factory? :-) Here's a sample titled "Eastern Tuna and Billfish Fishery Five Year Research Plan 2003-2008". But note that it's a link to a PDF file: <http://tinyurl.com/yoxq5s> or, if you prefer the full URL: <https://www.afma.gov. au/fisheries/tuna/etbf/publications/pdf/research03_08.pdf> However, Ortiz tuna does figure as a preferred item in the 2nd hit: "Maggie Beer - A Barossa Food Tradition - My favourites" <http://tinyurl.com/22ctep> or, in full: <http://www.maggiebeer.com. au/maggiewrites/favourites/?Item=ArtclsThePerfe> which is a somewhat self-serving list of "The Perfect Pantry" items. It emanates from Spain. If one can ship a can of food to Oz, I'd be happy to send you one or two. (The larger size here is in a jar, but cans may be better to ship.) Thanks *very* much for the offer, Jean. Much appreciated -- just one can will do for a sample, thank you. :-) Sending separate email. Cheers, Phred. -- LID |
