Why waste vanilla extract? Every time you use a lemon, grind what's
left in the disposal.

Make sure you have a disposal that can handle citrus rinds. Some
disposals do poorly and mangle without completely shredding things
like citrus rinds, celery, etc.

Come to think of it, when they get old they tend to get testy. I got
bawled out by hubby the last time I threw a lemon rind in the garbage
disposal. I say it's getting old (time to replace, but he says
otherwise). AFAIC they don't last very long.... sorta like car
batteries 5-6 years, 10 years max unless you baby. IMO if you baby it,
then you might as well not have one.

OTOH, who knows buy looking at one on the shelf if it's going to do a
good job? Not all disposals are designed the same. I had one
disposal that worked like those weird ol' Vita-Mix blenders, in that
instead of having cutting blades, it had a little free swinging
hammer-like thingie that smashed everything into pulp. It worked
great on everything but citrus rinds and celery, which just became
more and more fibrous and mangled without being torn apart. Weird
unit.

I've always used In-Sink-Erator brand. I'm more loyal to that than I
am to cars or political parties.

Now you know where my loyalities lie. LOL!

Uh, that's how all garbage disposals work - they have a beater (hammer)
not blades.
