Default Speaking of chili ...

Last night I watched Leno from Monday, the 16th.
Headlines. Friggin headlines, cracks me up every time.

So there's an article about some Big Chili Cook-off.
Showed the winner in front of his ingredients. Up front
and center? A can of ...

Purina Alpo Diced Cuts simmered in gravy.

Too damned funny...... ;-)

Our lab won the hospital chili cookoff once.
The main ingredient (other than the ground meat) was V-8 juice.

But at least that's "people" food!

That's pretty funny! My company had a chili cookoff every October. We
also had a corn bread category. I never entered the chili part, we had
an East Indian that had an amazing secret recipe, that seemed to win
much of the time. Another guy, a Canadian, had an outstanding "Kick
Ass Chili," which also was hard to beat.

One year, I remember getting up the morning of the cookoff, popping a
Jiffy Corn Bread mix into a bowl. And finely dicing red and green
peppers, and throwing in to the mix, along with some grated cheddar
cheese. I poured it all into a muffin pan, and popped 'em in the oven.

I was only entering the contest, so I'd get to eat that day. . .I
wasn't trying to win anything. Imagine my shock when I got first prize
for my Fiesta Confetti Cornbread. When they asked for the recipe, I
did the only thing any self-respecting really lame cook would say,
"It's an old family recipe". . .;-)
