I've lived in Maryland for all except the first 4 years of my life, so
I've had myself a crab or two. First, make sure you have small dishes
of cider vinegar and Old Bay seasoning all over the tables for folks to
dip their crab in to. Next, have corn on the cob, and plenty of it,
with good butter to melt on it. We usually offer hot dogs for people
who get tired of picking crabs, but they're wusses. Lastly, about
beverages: (pssssst: don't tell anybody, but I'm one of those
oddballs who HATES the taste of beer. No, really! Hate it!! Make
sure you have plenty of beer for the normal people, but have a nice
stash of pino grigio or other crisp white wine to enjoy with the
crabs....iced tea is good, too.)

Unless it's king crab... or maybe dungeness.

As tasty as blue crab is, I just refuse to buy it anymore.

Eating blue crab is not a meal, it is a social gathering and crab pickers
don't care how long it takes. If you just want the meat, it is much easier
to just buy the canned stuff.

From lots of experience the only thing you need with Maryland steamed
crabs is some sheets of butcher paper on the table and cold beer.
