Default Peas and beans

I picked my first peas this afternoon and will be having them with a
lamb chop for dinner. There are only about 10-12 pods, so it will be a
teeny portion, and I'll have something else green to accompany.
Probably chard, since I have a big bunch of that from the Boston
Organics box.

I may get one more picking off the peas. This was the first time I've
tried growing them, and now I know they need more space and more regular
watering. Ah, well. Next year!

My bush beans are starting, and I'm going to be buried in them by next
weekend, I predict. There are some baby beans now that I'm going to let
get bigger, and LOTS of blossoms. I hope to freeze a lot of them, plus
my neighbor likes 'em, and he's been very nice to me lately, and he's
sick in bed, so he'll get some.

I've also eaten my first cherry tomatoes fresh off the vine and just
rinsed under the hose. Warm from the sun, they're the food of the gods.

There is nothing better than fresh peas! I grew them in my Earthbox one
year. But I didn't get a very big yield. I had enough for a dinner for us,
and a few to take to a friend. She hid them from her family and cooked them
secretly just for herself. Of course, Angela and the cat and I were all
eating them as soon as they came on the vine. Just raw. Pod and all.
Angela wasn't allergic to peas back then.

I didn't plant anything this year. It has just been too cold here.

Very cool feeling, isn't it No peas for me this year, but I'm
watching the runner and French beans climb the trellis; I have lots of
baby spaghetti squash; and my toms are about 3 weeks behind yours. The
strawberries have finished, and I had a tiny glut - yum! I am talking
sternly to my courgettes - I have 4 plants, but they are all covered
in MALE flowers! Grrr

I've had that same problem every time I tried to grow them, so I gave
up. They're cheap enough at the farmers' market this time of year.
