Default Gas Cooktops - Need help in deciding a cooktop.

I am looking for advice on budgeting and deciding on the brand for a
gas cooktop.

I sear and simmer a lot.I really like the Thermador 5-Burner Gas
cooktop, but it costs about $1300. Is it worth spending that much money?

I make a lot of Indian food. I need something to simmers well and heats
my extra large griddle evenly. Of course, it needs to be easy to clean

Would the Thermador work? Are there any other cooktops that I should
look into as well?

Any advice on $ / other makes and models is much appreciated.

Thanks!

I'll second the recommendation for this KitchenAid model - I had one
installed a couple of weeks ago, and so far we're very impressed.

Mine's one of these:

The model number is KGSA906PSS; there are others with similar
features.
