Beer selection for church festival
I was asked to report back as to the final selections and how it went.
I ended up selecting the Wachusetts Country Ale and Spaten Franciscaner Weiss. My booth co-chair had already ordered 2 kegs of Bud and 2 of Bud light. We charged a $0.50 premium for the my two kegs. Over all it went well. We were open from 5-10 Friday and 10-10 Saturday. I was concerned because I only had my one CO2 cornie keg rig modified to use a Sanke and Spaten tap and planned to serve the Country Ale Friday ( use it all) and tap the Weiss on Saturday. Didn't quite work out that way. By 2 on Saturday we were still pouring the Country Ale ( and we were still on the first two barrels of the Bud's). I started offering 2 for 1 on the Country Ale to finish the keg (and broaden the exposure). It started to move and by 4 we tapped the Weiss. It went like wild fire. By 8 it was gone. I retapped what was left of the Country Ale and it lasted 15 minutes. There were many disappointed customers when we told them that we only had the Bud products left. By the end of the weekend we went through my two kegs and two Buds and 1 bud light. Overall, the "un-washed masses" enjoyed the upgrade to better beer and continually asked why we hadn't done this before. Over all it was a success and a special thanks to Nick Pizzimento (owner of) the Horseshoe Pub in Hudson, Ma for helping with the kegs, cutting me a great deal and providing the Sanke and Spaten taps. I'm now the chair for the beer and wine for the upcoming Casino night. Probably only a one kegger in early November. "Shameless plug" Please check out their 75 beers on tap and recently renovated establishment. -- replace the "dot" with "." to reply |
