went to biloxi ms for 11 days. here's the low down on the places i ate
at... corky's in biloxi--- don't yell at me!!! i was up since 4 am with no breakfast and only a cracker on the airplane. by the time i got to biloxi and got my room, it was 2 pm with no food in me. had to go somewhere quick and safe. my first time eating "memphis style" ribs. different, but it grew on me. beans were nothing special, the baked apples were missing something. peacan pie was pretty good (2 scoops of ice cream and carmel drizzled over it all). BUT 6 BUCKS FOR PIE??? almost half the price of the meal (13 bucks) went to pie. RATING: 7 1/2 i went a second time (see below) the night before coming home. first time trying rib-tips in a restaurant. what a freaking waste of money. but the potato salad and mac and cheese were great!!! RATING: 6 montana's in gulport--- one word...buffet. all the sides in the buffet were the best things about this place. there was a seperate area where a lady was carving brisket. she also had several racks of ribs on a cutting board she was slicing up and putting in a warming tray. there was also chicken and kilbasa-type sausage. none of the meats tasted smoked or bbq'ed. save your gas. RATING:5 bingo's bbq shack in biloxi--- drive through take out. there were some tables and seats outside, but at 45 degrees, that wasn't going to happen. got half rack with sauce on the side and beans. it was torture driving to the room with the smell!!! the ribs were a bit greasy. they were the texture of thick pork chops. what type of cooking technique does this indicate? the meat didn't have "grain" to it. the beans were very good. lots of pieces of brisket in the mix. RATING:6 the shed in ocean springs--- supposed to be a semi-famous place down there. literally a shed thats been added on to over the years. i ate in a room framed with corrigated sheet metal. got the half rack with beans and slaw. both sides were ok. i forgot to ask for the ribs "dry", so they came sauced-up. my bad. i've never had ribs fall apart that easily in my life. i know that's not necessarily a sign of good q'ing, but that's the way they were. the bones had the biggest curve i've ever seen also. there was alot of "grain" to the meat. they closest to home-made ribs of the locations i went to. if i ever get down there again, i've got to order the ribs with sauce on the sides. the rating would probably been higher. i could tell there was good tase somewhere down there under the sauce. RATING: 7.5 davis bbq in gulfport--- went with a friend of mine. in a questionable part of town. when we found the place, it was a drive-up, take out only. my friend wasn't comfortable with the surroundings/neighborhood, so we left. he wanted to go to corky's instead. if i was by myself, i probably would have ordered. he was driving though. it looks like it was all for the best cause i realized all i had was plastic with me and that place was definately a cash-only operation. |
