In case you haven't seen Stormmee on the last few days, their house burned
down to the ground. They are all safe. One of the cats was missing
overnight but is with them now.

And no, the blind lady was not trying to BBQ! Told her I was going to say
that.

No, they are staying at a motel looking for an apartment where they can have
the cats. She will love your comment. To entertain ourselves, we have done
every fire joke or comment we can. No, it isn't funny but far better for her
to laugh than cry. She really is one heck of a lady and her DH is a great
friend too.

What a horrible event! We live in the woods and worry about that day to day.
It would be very tough to start all over again.
We're thinking about you Stormmee.

They are working with the "reclamation" people. Talk about tough picking up
one thing at a time and deciding to keep or not. It is the "or not" that
would kill me.

It would be very tough. All the stuff sitting about you, even the "junk" is
part of you. It's really like starting over.

What you have to be thankful about ongoing is that the family is unharmed. I
hope so. I'm assuming so.

I wouldn't think getting onto usenet would be a very high priority right
now.

Well sir, being nearly blind myself, sitting in a hotel room when they are
not dealing with people doesn't sound like fun either. Her DH can watch TV,
read the newspaper, etc. The being online works on several levels, Looking
for things that insurance will replace, communicating with family and
friends and all sorts of things besides usnet. A person's mind is active
better on positive than not.

I would agree. Not to mention the actual utility, there is also the
diversion.

I think we all get it, you and they are blind. You can quit playing that
card now.

That sentence makes no sense. Not to mention the fact that being blind does
not determine whehter sitting in a hotel room is fun or not.

> Her DH can watch TV, read the newspaper, etc. The being online works on

I will suppose that your blindness overlooked the fact that I did not
comment on the need and utility of the internet, only the need for being on
usenet.

> A person's mind is active better on positive than not.

However, given that I've dealt with family who have had to put their lives
back together after a fire has 'burned their house to the ground', there was
little time to spend with time-wasters like usenet. Just a seemingly simple
thing like putting together an inventory list of destroyed household goods
was exceedingly time-consuming.

I honestly wish them well, and hope they have a good recovery from their
loss. Those who have never experienced, nor who have had close family or
friends experience a devastating total loss of a home and personal effects,
have no clue of the impact and stress such causes.

But the notion that one in such a situation will waste time on usenet is
strange. Blind or not.
