I picked up a smoker similar to the WSM. The instructions recommend using
this thing on a non-flammable surface. Is this just a liability warning? I was hoping to use it on my wood deck. |

If I were going to try, I'd probably set a 24" X 24" patio stone on the deck and put the smoker on that. Also, think about hot coals when cleaning out the firebox, and loading fuel. BOB |

Thanks for the tip - I hadn't even considered the hot coals.

I saw a large fire proof, stain resistant mat at a home improvement store
the other day (either Lowes or Home Depot). It was big enough for many gas grills so it should be more than enough for your smoker. |

We're mostly all adults, right? We can do anything we want. Just don't
burn the house down. "Mick" > wrote in message news ![]() > I picked up a smoker similar to the WSM. The instructions recommend using > this thing on a non-flammable surface. Is this just a liability warning? I > was hoping to use it on my wood deck. > > |

Well, ash falls out and coals drop out from these cookers. And with Verts you're gonna have some grease drippin too. Visit your local Walmart Auto shop and buy one of those big "cookie sheet" metal drip pans - about $9.00. Makes clean up easy and you don't get burned spots and grease spots on your deck. -- -frohe Life is too short to be in a hurry |

I did have to buy a cheap stopper to plug the drain hole. Add a little water to the pan and start smokin! Chris |
