Dewd, meat vs. bread; think about it.

Hmm ... it wasn't intended to be disgusting, but I see your point.

My intended point was that it is obviously more manly to have skills
in preparing meat.

Well, which is it you want to know about? Manliness? Or General

Seems to me there's a lot of time available for tending the fire while
the dough is rising, and a lot of time available to knead and shape the
dough while you're waiting for that magical 190 degrees in the pork
butt. So why are you trying to wimp out here?

Bread makes you fat. Meat makes you build tall buildings, conquer
space and feel-up the home coming queen.

I am a great preparer of meat; grilling, barbecuing, and smoking.
However, my level of general usefulness is admittedly low; unless you
want a great smoked rib or other meat, or a grilled steak, or a brat,
etc.

Really good, homemade bread is amazing, but doesn't really compare to
really great bbq.

However, throw in pastries, like hand-made puff-pastry, croissants,
sticky buns, napoleons, ... and now you're talking.

btw, this reminds me of that one episode of KITCHEN CONFIDENTIAL where
the pastry chef (Xander from Buffy) and teh Fish chef (Harold from
HAROLD AND KUMAR) are having a contest about whehter customers prefer
fish or cake. The outcome was very funny...

Both baking bread and barbecue are very easy to do well. Sadly, neither
are commonly, or easily, purchased well.

There are vast stretches of this country where you can find neither good
bread nor good barbecue for sale at any price.

If you want to enjoy life, learn to do both well. And then learn to
brew, and you'll find good beer and good wine are as rare as good bread
and good barbecue.

One woefully ignorant poster commented that barbecue and smoked meat
"suck ass". This suggests that he never encountered GOOD barbecue or
smoked meat. Done right, they are the stuff of legend.

I don't know who you are, but you are correct.

(PS--also depends on the woman, as far as BBQ'er vs. Baker. I suck at
baking bread...it's one aspect of cooking I just can't master. It's
sad because my mom makes THEE best caramel cinnamon rolls in the

hand, I am quite skilled with the grill.)

Being a Gemini, I do both very well. And guys, it's a way show
balance between your cavemanliness and your Alan Aldaness.

My best is olive and grain bread and mixed grill.

We entertain a lot for friends family and business, and not meaning
(really) to brag, I'm always asked for formulas. I never follow a
recipe, only my instinct, but finally started to journal my
ingredients.

My most covented get together is the summer BBQ when I serve my best
bread as big ass sandwhich buns on which you can put the grilled
animals:

Squirrel, moose, horse, venison, rabbit, frog legs, and flash seared
tuna. (each treated with their own marinade)

I send a menu out in advance with pictures (respectively) of our
dinner victims:

Rocky, Bulllwinkle, Mr Ed, Bambi, Bugs, Kermit and Charley.

Well Guv, Imnsho JoeSpareBedroom gave the answer that true men give.
A true man needs three (3) tings
1 A home, could be house or cave.
2 Food, BBQ and bread are good
3 Sex, until he can't walk.
You will notice 1 & 2 have alternates, #3 is singular.

even though they had a larger brain capacity. Probably, they

I start my bread dough the day before, putting the rub on my brisket
and/or pork shoulder at the same time. The next day I get the meat in

I wait. A few mugs of overly hopped and carbonated IPA makes the
waiting a lot easier.

I'm still waiting for someone who knows about and has baked "Salt Risin (or
rising)" bread.
