It was something Pastorio mentioned.

I've found I tend to get a better sear on the outside of steaks allowed
to warm a bit.

It does not take that long. I stick mine inside of the microwave to keep
them away from curious kitties. <G> It also seems to absorb the
coating/marinade a bit better.
